this boot is made 4 concerts!!!it is live funk at its best!!!from the cover i thought it was gonna be a real corny concert, but it is slammin!!i am 43 yrs. wow!!!i have had this cd in my collection for about 6 months and i had just decided to play it. old i am from georgia. i grew up with the funk, therefore i have road in the mothership.
I can't believe this is out of print now...
It's a shame as this is truly one of the keystones of funk documentation. I bought this CD when it was released and I found out it is now out of print.
Bootsy's studio albums are a curious affair. He's obviously funky, but something about the recordings is just slightly tame, they are mixed too clean. You would think he sat in a symphony hall when he taped his tracks. The infamous Space Bass is also usually too quiet or thin. I dare say the studio CDs might make you doubt the power of the One.
Just one listen to Bootsy's Rubber Band in Louisville will put to rest suspicion that he was in any way lacking in the funk. The mix on this show is just TREMENDOUS. Perhaps not the highest fidelity but it is clean and clear, and the bass is off the charts. The level of intentional distortion is simply amazing, and the band really knows when to exploit this as well as when to reel it in. They go through all their hits, really destroying the uptempo songs and yet keeping the slower songs very simple and all the more incredible to listen to.
Two highlights:
"Psychoticbumpschool," where Bootsy unleashes the true power of the Space Bass and drops a monstrous, previously unheard bassline throughout the track. The Space Bass growls, it roars, it rumbles, it stomps your face in, it's just ridiculous. Pure funk decadence.
"I'd Rather Be With You," the band slows it down, real easy, or so it might seem. This starts out innocently enough, especially having just come off two somewhat downtempo tracks in a row, Very Yes and I Can't Stay Away. But where I Can't Stay Away seemed a touch rambling, "I'd Rather Be With You" is just shocking in it's razor sharp funk precision. What seems like the tail-end of a lull in the show suddenly focuses when Bootsy hits a ridiculous Space Bass solo followed by an incredible series of new choruses and vamps from the band made just for this song. It extends 10-minutes plus and it is still far too short.
Hopefully they will re-release this in some form soon. If you see a used copy on the marketplace for this CD under $20, buy it immediately. .

Damn!!!!!
It took me 9 months to aquire it and I could not believe what I heard! I am a Bootsy/P-Funk fan from way back and I did not expect this much funk! Everthing about this CD is excellent. I just purchased this CD. Bootsy has the Space Bass on steriods, slammin hard in your face (there is no other bass sound like it!) and the Rubber Band is tight as hell. This is the best live CD I have ever heard! For all you Hip Hop/Rap young cats, find this CD. This is uncut funk from the originator, the way funk is supposed to be. Amazon/CD Now, Please push this CD to the top of the must have list for young fans. I had to purchase it used so please advertise and create a demand for this CD. Put it out there for the young music fans. Make this a priority. It's that good! This will be pure education of the P-funk for the un informed. If it were possible, this CD deserves an American Music Award for best live performance. It's that powerful!.
