Rush at their peak. This LP presents Rush at their creative and commercial peak, and faithfully reproduces their live concert sound while demonstrating their virtuoso musical chops. I don't even usually like live albums, but 'Exit Stage Left' is exceptional. It also serves as a 'best-of' for their early to mid periods (1974-1981). A great headphone album, and a great concert document.
great album, disappointed with Amazon!
Purchased this CD NEW from Amazon, however it was a cutout! A small hole was drilled into backside of case.
"This Is The Spirit Of The Radio..."
Exit. These were the very first words I ever heard from Rush, on an old TDK AD90 cassette and I could not believe three musicians could make this incredible sound. . . Stage Left is still my favourite live Rush album and my favourite live album of all time. The definative versions of Red Barchetta (with its wonderful warmth and Geddy's timeless spoken intro; "This is a song about a car. . . " is uniquely odd yet strangely touching) and YYZ are on this recording complete with Neil's best solo to date (in my opinion). We are then treated to a brilliantly tight A Passage To Bangkok that segues into Closer To The Heart with its electric Glaswegian chorus which then blends perfectly into a blistering Beneath, Between and Behind. Another highlight is Broon's Bane - a lovely tribute to their (then) producer and the perfect intro to The Trees which merges perfectly into a stunning, powerhouse performance of Xanadu. Jacob's Ladder features a strange 60's rockabilly intro which is again, uniquely weird and yet only Rush would conceive such an odd idea and make it sound so fresh. This would be a great introduction to Rush for the beginner, it was my introduction to the greatest musical love affair I have ever known. The album ends like a moving force in the shape of Rush classics; Freewill, Tom Sawyer and a magical, La Villa Strangiato. Even today, this recording would still be my perfect live Rush setlist. For me, Exit. . . Stage Left is the perfect live album; snapshots of Rush caught at brilliant moments in their career. .
Great Live CD
A must for RUSH fans. Ive seen Rush several times and this is a great Live cd.
Probably Rush's Greatest Live Album - Probably the Greatest Live Album Ever!
There's probably only one that has convinced me as much as "Exit. I have listened to many live albums including Cheap Trick's "At Budokan", Slayer's "Live Decade of Aggression", and Led Zeppelin's "How the West Was Won" etc. . . Stage Left" and that's Megadeth's "That One Night - Live in Buenos Aires". What makes this even better than Megadeth's live album is the song selections. . . and the musical skills that Rush's players have. The audience is really there where it should be. Many people have said that Rush is much better live than studio - this is defintely a proof of that. Of course (I know), there's small breaks between the songs in some cases but actually that goes for me. Actually the only bad thing are fade-ins. This live album is even better than their first one "All the World's a Stage" which also is a must for every Rush fan.
Stars: Xanadu, YYZ, A Passage to Bangkok, Tom Sawyer.
