Very Satisfied
First off, I love Rush, and second the cd wasn't scratched or anything. I am very satisfied with my purchase of Power Windows. I always listen to the whole cd so if there is anything wrong with it, I could always send it back. Thanks Amazon!.


By Far The Best Rush Album!
This record definately does not get the credit it deserves.
This album and Hemispheres, in my opinion, are Rush at their best. I mean, come on! you gotta admit it! Emotion Detector and Middletown Dreams are [. . . ]!!

If I had to put it in one word, it would be this:

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!.


So 1985!!!!
Neil Peart has the electronic percussion thing going, Geddy Lee indulges in synthesizers, and Alex Lifeson is new waving it as never before. Rush's 1985 release, POWER WINDOWS still resonates with me to this day, because whenever I play the CD, I'm reminded that this release is about as close as they could come to matching themselves up to a particular sound and a particular year. But. . . . . the album is very good, and it shows how adaptive and experimental (not to mention, bold) Rush is. MTV was in full swing in those days, and it's easy to chuckle at the hairstyles these guys were sporting at the time when seeing the music videos. I think that this release is a refreshing one, in terms of taking a trip back in time, and feeling like it's 1985 all over again. There's something nostalgic about this album. The songs:1) THE BIG MONEY: Great opening song, lots of boards, catchy (9/10)2) GRAND DESIGNS: Sounds a little like Red Barchetta at times with the guitar (8/10)3) MANHATTAN PROJECT: World events are the central basis of this album, and this song exemplifies this, along with Territories (8/10)4) MARATHON: Good solo, very good melody (9/10) 5) TERRITORIES: Very good effort here, nice bass lines, lots of boards, good lyrics (9/10)6) MIDDLETOWN DREAMS: This song could almost wind up on a Cyndi Lauper album!!! It sounds like her stuff, but it's still good. . . . the last half of the song is powerful and flowing (9/10)7)EMOTION DETECTOR: By now the listener is drowning in synthesizers and keyboards, and this track pours it on even more!!! A mature song that's catchy (9/10) 8)MYSTIC RHYTHMS: The epitome of every member at their 1985 very best--lots of electronic percussion, synthesizers, light guitar, low bass. . . . . isn't that what 1985 was all about? (9/10) I recommend this CD because it'll bring a smile to a listeners' face who's into music that's so reflective of a certain period or year. If you loved 1985, then this CD is for you!!!.


Powerful, stirring, stunning


Every song on here is a masterpiece that is full of life, power, and driving force. Rush's 1985 work "Power Windows" encapsulates just about everything that is amazing about the 80s period of Rush -- the waves of delicious 80s analog synth, Alex's powerful chords and harmonic riffs, Geddy's lower-mid tone vocals (he had, at this time, left behind the loud shrieks of the 70s era in exchange for pretty mid-range vocals), flawless songwriting, and of course Neil's poetry and drumming prowess. Especially masterful is "The Manhattan Project", which opens with a brooding synth and an omnious drumbeat before crescendoing into a beautiful synth melody and seguing into the verse. "Marathon" features a phenomenal anthemic chorus and a powerful, life-affirming drive. "Middletown Dreams" is another ode to adolescent dreaming in suburbia, but with a more hopeful and jubiliant air than the more somber "Subdivisions". Closing tracks "Emotion Detector" and "Mystic Rhythms" are phenomenal as well.

Truly one of the best 80s Rush albums in their 80s-pop-meets-prog era. A must-have masterpiece.

Rush -- Power Windows
Highly-recommend these great tunes; to get started, listen to "Big Money". This is one of Rush's underappreciated classics -- powerful, 80's sounding tracks that are as great on your iPod as they are while driving on your favorite road trip.
