Just One ...
This CD is a definite buy for fans that know Tom's music and own all the others. If you are going to buy just one Tom Rush CD (this is hard to do), you might enjoy 'Circle Game', or 'Tom Rush' or another one of his earlier CDs more.

There are many good songs on this one . . . and they grow on you after just a few listens.

I probably will change this review to 5 stars . . . !

Mike.

My new favorite
I listen to it all the time, and it just keeps getting better. This studio album is looong over due, and most excellent. Thanks Tom.

Awesomely comfortable

It's true that TR has been somewhat under the radar. The reviewer who said this CD was like slipping on a flannel shirt was right on. I was pretty much introduced to him via Trolling for Owls, which I absolutely love. For us 50-somethings who love the music of Steve Goodman, Greg Brown, John Prine, this CD is an affirmation that there is still a place for strong original folk music. I love TR's voice, and I find this CD endlessly comforting. The younguns might not care so much for it. Their loss.

Great for a Tom Rush fan
OK. I admit it. I'm a Tom Rush fan. I first heard him when I was in college in Boston and have all of his previous albums, which have been replaced by his CDs. After years without a release, it was a joy to get this CD. A must have for his fans.

Like a gathering of old friends
Bonnie Bramlett, Emmylou Harris, and Nanci Griffith add backup vocals to many of the songs and the list of musicians sitting in on this session is the stuff of legend. This 15-song somewhat philosophical collection of folk songs sounds like a gathering of old friends by a warm fire.

So, what do you get? A song about the legendary railroader "Casey Jones. " A very good treatise on life called "What I Know. " This is all capped off with a really nice cover of Dobie Gray's "Drift Away". What an excellent end for this collection.

If you like Tom Rush or any of the backup singers' work, you're going to enjoy this CD. It's more introspective than most, but it's a good rainy day soundtrack for sure.

Rebecca Kyle, June 2009.
