Hands down best Sadus album! Best metal album of 1990? I'm saying this and I have quite a collection, i. This album is good, no scratch that, THIS IS REALLY GOOD. e. hundreds and hundreds of Thrash albums and this one sticks out as one of the best.
This was Sadus' first real album since "Illusions" was not distributed on a large scale (luckily reissued in '91, but only because Death had become big and Steve was bassist for them then). I remember I (very intelligently) got this on CD when this album came out (back when CDs were like $17-$23 a piece new. )
What is the listener treated to? Great Thrash/Death Metal with odd time signatures, technical work, pounding drums, great bass lines. This is all kept together by the fast pace and Darren Travis' shriek shrill vocals. Steve DiGiorgio, simply the best bassist in metal period (only the guy from Forced Entry comes close. . . by miles away), a man who is on his own plateau sporting his fretless Carvin, Rickenbacker, or ESP 5-string bass. Now who plays a fretless bass in metal? No one except for DiGiorgio, and he along with Jaco Pastorius are my favorite bassists.
Despite the albums fast pace, there are change-ups and slower tempo breaks and choruses. The guitar work of Travis/Moore is great with verses and excellent with those screaming solos which are always well placed. The bass is interesting because sometimes it is faster than the guitars, sometimes a little bit slower, and at other times just on time with the axemen. The lyrics are serious and thought provoking likes the song about how people see themselves, "Images". Very rare in either the Thrash or Death Metal genre.
Favorite songs, "Last Abide", "The Wake", "Images" and "False Incarnation". Another favorite is "In Your Face" with the hilarious line, ". . . I see you got a problem, I see you want to die!" Great memories. If your a maniac about good Thrash or Death Metal, do yourself a favor and get this album!

Classic technical speed metal! Way back in 1990. I remember the day I bought this on tape. I had heard so much about this band from zines and the underground network (pen pals) I had to get it. I remember first hearing this and thinking, "wow, these guys are tight and soooooo fast!" Of course the band would (sad to say) be nothing if Steve DiGiorgio was not in it. His insane chops on a fretless bass is amazing. I mean come on. At that time it was totally unheard of to hear a fretless bass in speed metal. Unheard of. But man DiGiorgio is so talented it makes the songs all the better.
People who are entertained by Cynic (the Roadrunner 3 song demo style), Atheist, Watchtower will love this. Its so technical at times you will be in awe. Just listen to Black. Listen to those bass lines! HOLY! Yeah yeah, sad to say this is a bass guitar driven band. Think of Primus but NO not the music. The two guitarists are both proficent and talented and of course the drummer is extreamly tight and talented with all the fills and offbeats and cymbal catches.
Now what gets me is today people are selling this CD for $32-40 USED/OPENED. Granted you will not find this anywhere brand new but you can find it on P2P. I was lucky enough to find it used at a local shop for $7. So people that are asking for $32 well, that's insane. I even found Illusions on CD for $8 at another store used a few years back. I now know not to sell them!
But seriously, this was a very memorable CD. Even the artwork is killer!! If you can track down a used copy at a "reasonable" price do not hesitate to pick this up. It should be in the history books of metal! .
