Buy it for the cd-rom video
All they can do is stare with respectful awe at the nine-minute original version. The two re-mixes are disappointing. Can you blame them? Not really, but they are uninspired nevertheless. The two bonus tracks add another layer of lovely ambient noise to the superb `Sound of Water' album (their best yet). `Red Sitter,' in particular, is obliquely moving: driving the car to the airport in the rain while your lover stares out the window detached and separate; alone with his thoughts. The appearance of `Red Sitter' on the new b-sides collection `Interlude' would render this disc completely unneccesary save for the bonus CD-rom video of `How we used to live,' a series of beautiful evanescent images which dissolve into one another until Sarah Cracknell turns up and rocks the (empty) house. The video-film may be the only 'mix' here which does the song justice but its fabulousness makes the disc not only a worthwhile buy but ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for the true St. Etienne fan.

Come with Saint Etienne to the Casaba.
The added remixes are great, they are extended and a little more abstract. Power ballad, opus, call it what you want to call it, it's a instant Saint Etienne classic! From "Sound of Water" the single "How We Used to Live" is one of the albums strong points. Whats not to love? Plus you get the video! I love enhanced versions. This was my first Saint Etienne video to see so I was thrilled! If your a Saint Etienne fan invest in this single (I'm sure you already new how cool it is)!.

A beautiful musical experience
Too grandiose? Just listen to it. Saint Etienne has written and recorded its magnum opus. This is a luscious piece of work. It has the poetic sensuality of early Kate Bush; the electronic experimentation of OMD; and the perfect pop sound of New Musik. However, it's Saint Etienne and this song has to be their masterpiece. It's a three part suite starting as a ballad, stepping up to a dance beat and then ending with a hint of jazzy-blues. This disk is 27 minutes long plus it has an enhanced video of the song. It's almost like getting a whole new album for less than the usual price. Saint Etienne fans will love this. New listeners-definitely try it out.
