G3: Three Guitar GreatsIf you love guitar music, you'll love this live concert album featuring three solo performances each by Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai, each in his own inimitable style, plus three more pieces with all three guitarists jamming together: a guitar-lover's dream!.
If you like electric guitars ...buy it !
If you play guitars, listen to these guys, then, you'll have two choices, first, try to be as good as they are but prepare to do nothing else than playing guitars, forget your wife, your friends and your social life ! Your other choice, put your guitar on E-bay and put this cd in your player and listen to real guitar virtuoso !. The least we can say is this : these guys knows how to play guitars !
They are simply amazing musicians, the sounds is excellent and the music too.
G3; Live in concert.Cool and Slick.
Satriani , Johnson & Vai are strenuous musicians. Swift and Magic guitar . .
Too much of a good thing
With Vai and Satriani on board plus the chance to introduce myself to Eric Johnson it seemed all was set for a good night with my stereo. Being a lover of rock guitars and rock/metal in generalt this package seemed like mana from heaven. And in terms of musicianship I was right. and the fact that the whole G3 concept has taken off in years after this discs release only makes me have even more warm and fuzzy feelings towards it in retrospect.
Ultimately this release is a handy summation of the original G3 tour, three Satriani numbers including the brillian Flying in a Blue Dream, three Eric Johnson shreds and then three more tunes by the ridiculously talented Mr Vai - and the whole shebang ends with three tunes with all three blokes on stage. Top stuff.
Downsides to weigh against the positives are the fact that over an hour of widdly diddly is enough to test even the most shred obsessed. Perhaps breaking the album into quarters would be the best bet. A couple of tracks per day to ensure your giving the guys the respect and attention their talents deserve!
Or get DVD's of the guys for a visual experience to add to the sometimes sparse nature of endless guitar noodle. But man, how much talent can three guys have. . . . . . . surely makes other guitarists either practice harder and longer or just give up in resignation.
G3 Lineup Impresses On Live CD
G3 is the brainchild of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and they add another stellar guitarist to the mix. This live concert CD of G3 will impress aslmost every guitar music lover. On other releases, they've had Kenny Wayne Shepherd, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Adrian Legg, Robert Fripp, and others. On this version, Satriani and Vai are joined by legendary guitarist Eric Johnson.
Each performs three cuts solo, and then the three play together. Satriani smokes on Cool No. 9 and Flying In A Blue Dream, Johnson's Manhattan is fantastic and you can here the obvious Hendrix influence, and Vai's For The Love of God is incredible.
This is a spectacular CD. A must have for guitar music lovers.
