An Original Work
It won the best overall album from Guitar Player magazine back in '89 so those who insist on insulting this cd are in the distant minority. This was Joe's introduction to the masses back in 1987-88. There are several great tracks, The 'Lords of Karma' being my favorite with the dynamic 'Circles' being a close second. The bass lines are nothing fancy, and Joe sometimes is capable of going over the top, but that's OK because he's basically showing everyone what he's got in his tank, and it's full high test.

Awsome
It was also the first of his recordings I heard of and I have been a fan ever since. This was a break threw album for this artist. However the original recording wasnt so well done but this remastered version is much better.

Shred guitar so tastefully done.
In my opinion it is my favorite album to play while driving. I could not possibly put into words how awesome this album is. The album that put "Satch" on the map. This guy was Steve Vai's guitar teacher. Shred on Joe!.

Satriani Gold
There are many guitarists, then and now, that have an incredible ability to play fast licks with all the associated tricks and squeals and awe-inspiring waves of dorian wonder, but what sets Satriani apart and always has, is his knowledge of music. When Satriani released this album, it turned guitar upside down, instrumental albums being marketable and profitable were just unheard of at the time. He is well versed in musical theory and knows his instrument. His talent lies in his phrasing, he has an uncanny ability to write melodies that seem so completely natural, you wonder why you've never heard it before. It's one of those, slap-the-forehead moments! If you enjoy guitar, but have never really gotten into instrumental rock give this album, Flying in a Blue Dream and the Extremist a try. I think you will find that they have true song structure and you won't feel as if you are missing anything without the presence of a vocalist. .

Half-transcends
A select group of compositions extend melodics usually not found in the restrictive genre, helping to steer away from the collective 80's metal assault that still crept into much production and robbed at least half of SWTA from staying fresh. 2 1/2

Surely an important or influential electric solo guitar disc, but one whose tracks have only partially withstood the test of time. .
