One of my fave Saxon albums
This is one of my top fave releases by them. I know that many people do not care too much of Saxon's the Power and the Glory, but I do. The title track is a top notch masterpeace if you do not mind me saying. The guitar playing is exquisite. Bif Byford's vocals are at his best. Ok I may be getting a bit too melodramatic here. But I do reccommend this cd, as well as most of there others. .

One of the Best!
This was, and is, definitely one of the best Metal albums of all time. I can't believe those that rated this album with 1 or 2 stars. I remember when the album originally came out. It was viewed as Saxon's best. I actually had the opportunity to see Saxon after this album came out. They were incredible. It's ashame that they never received the recognition they deserved.

For true Metal fans, get this album! It should defintely be in your collection if you appreciate original 80's Heavy Metal and not some water downed version of it. .

Saxon - 'Power & The Glory' (EMI Import)
Originally released in 1983,as 'Power. . ' was Saxon's sixth lp. No idea as to why there are several one-star reviews here by others. I remember this record being considered to be somewhat of an under rated classic back in the day when 'metal DID more or less rule'. Noticed that drummer Nigel Glockler had just joined the band. Tunes that I truly miss hearing on a semi-regular basis are the powerful title track "Power&The Glory"(VH1 Classic should play that video sometime),their anthem(sort of)"This Town Rocks","Watching The Sky" and "The Eagle Has Landed". Prime '80's top of the line British metal to be had here. Recommended.

QUESTION - ALL SAXON FANS . . . .
"Suzi Hold On" appears on an earlier Saxon release (WHEELS OF STEEL), but the version on the POWER & THE GLORY is far superior. Hey guys, the cassette version of this release had the song "Suzi Hold On" and the CD has "Midas Touch". Can ANYONE tell me where to find the POWER & THE GLORY version of "Suzi Hold On" on CD?

OK, now for the review . . .

I LOVE the title track "Power And The Glory" - fast riffs and some great drumming. It sould similar to DIO's "Stand Up And Shout", if you've ever heard it. "This Town Rocks" is another fast-paced, hard rocker.

Saxon has had some interesting lyrical content throughout their career. They seemed to take a cue from Iron Maiden for topics like vikings ("Warrior") and fighting and war ("Power And The Glory"). We've also got the standard metal topics of motorcycles ("Redline") and crowd pleasers ("This Town Rocks") - themes we've seen on earlier Saxon releases that will perpetuate in later releases.

Nigel Glockler makes his drummer debut here - and he is GOOD. The talent base for the band is good - maybe not quite up to Judas Priest or Iron Maiden level, but these guys wrote great songs and they play their metal hearts out for their fans. It's a shame they were not appreciated in the USA the way they were in their native England because they have a lot to offer the metal world. I have most of their CD's and all are in the 4 and 5 star range. Don't miss out on these guys. If you are new to SAXON, begin with POWER & THE GLORY, DENIM AND LEATHER, and INNOCENCE IS NO EXCUSE.

Powerful and Glorious
I am not a Saxon fanatic but I know what I like and "The Power and the Glory" album was the pinnacle for the group in my opinion. I do not own this import CD but the original vinyl picture disc. Each track has real depth and individuality and makes the whole album engaging from start to finish. Shake your head and play that air guitar or drums and wear a big smile.
