Customer Reviews Less than overwhelmed Frankly, I really do not care at all for any of the accompanied numbers, with the exception of "Ave Maria" - probably because it has the most traditional, least "jazzy" sound to it (I'm not a big fan of their "Lost in the Stars" CD either). Like others, I was disappointed in this latest Christmas CD from Chanticleer. Still, it is Chanticleer, and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" is absolutely beautiful - the one track I can listen to over and over. Could this be Chanticleer? The arrangements lack interest, the Chanticleer Orchestra (with a group known for their a cappella work) is overpowering and uninspired. As a Chanticleer fan, I must say that this is a really bad CD. I knew this was mostly "popular" music when I bought the CD; I wouldn't have guessed that it would be poorly done. As an owner of all their other Christmas CDs, I can see that I will now have to be a much more careful consumer of their work. It even makes me worry about spending money to attend one of their concerts (which I have done in the past); now I would definitely want to know exactly what was going to be on the program (and make sure they weren't traveling with that dreadful instrumental ensemble). . Good -- could be a little livelier The characterization elsewhere as background music is very apt -- something to play during a relaxed Christmas dinner -- or when relaxing in front of a warm fire on a cold day. Beautifully done, mostly very slow, peaceful interpretations of the various songs -- speeds up a bit toward the end. Ave Maria is roughly half orchestral and half vocal. Beautiful voices and harmony -- the tenors are truly amazing -- I thought I could hit some high notes. .
