This Is The Best Of the Scorpions 80s Output Hands Down. Starting with 1979s Lovedrive, 2 albums before this, they changed their sound into what we find here and what they are remembered for most. This is my favorite 80s metal Scorpions album. Although not their best-selling album, I believe that honor goes to 1990s Crazy World, this is their hardest-rocking, most consistent 80s album.
It was created under a lot of pressure, with the drummer suffering from complications from alcoholism and the singer Klaus Meine was just recovering from vocal chord surgery. In spite of these problems they delivered a 10 of a metal album. All the songs are highlights and at least the first 3 tracks are concert staples as well as hit singles. Scorpions fans or fans of 80s metal can't go wrong with this one.
Highly Recommended.
There's No One Like the Scorpions!
As soon as I had saved up some cash, I went to my local record store to purchase this album and was pleased to find that "No One Like You," the album's AOR hit, was not the only great song; in fact, they are ALL GREAT! Dieter Dierks production is immaculate and proves that there's something to be said for analog recording technology after all. What can I say; I was a freshman in high school and this album literally changed my life! I heard the opening screaming note of "No One Like You" roar out of the stereo from the back seat of my mom and dad's '78 Toyota Celica and yelled to my parents,"Wow! Turn that up!" I'm 43 now and have been a Scorpions fan ever since. Every song is a gem, and, this album, like virtually all Scorpions albums, contains a splendid mix of fast, moderate and slow tunes.
This album is the pinnacle of Matthias Jabs guitar work. In fact, I would argue that this is perhaps the most fierce guitar work ever recorded on an AOR friendly, hard rock album, excepting maybe Van Halen's "Women and Children First" and "Van Halen I. " I read in an interview that Jabs recorded the album on a late 60's Les Paul, one too valuable to take on the road (hence, the use of the flashier looking, striped Gibson Explorers for the live shows).
This album has appeal across ages, genders and musical tastes (the title track, "Blackout," is my three-year old son's favorite song). I could go on and on about the quality of this recording but my words would still fall short of expressing the hard-rock mastery that is "Blackout. " Amazingly, as great as this album is, I personally feel that 1979's "Lovedrive" album is even better. Do yourself a favor and purchase both "Blackout" and "Lovedrive. " Once tasted, you will find your appetite for more Scorpions to be insatiable. Tracing their roots back to 1966,truly, Scorpions are among the progenitors of hard rock/heavy metal music.
german rock done right
I was in high school . I remember when this album came out it blew up everybody had this disc. Then they came to the area I ditched school to see them at the oakland coliseum at a event called day on the green headliners believe it or not was foreigner loverboy iron maiden scorpions The scorpions stole the show they were awesome. the worst band was foreigner they sucked live. A short time later I followed them to fresno selland arena scorpions were so good I don't even remember who the opening act was. I thought the best part of the show was the fact that after the show they shared Rudolf Schenker's birthday celebration with the people who came to the show all in all this was one of the best albums released at the time the music had great hooks Klaus Meine's vocals were crisp and clean intro's were the best definitely a must have for any rock collection hope I did not bore you to much thanks for listening .
"New" Fan Thanks to BLACKOUT
The only other Scorpions albums I had prior were Humanity and Moment of Glory, and I'm of course familar with their other big hits. I recently purchased this album because I have seen the No One Like You video (both versions) a lot on VH1 Classic lately.
Well I was pleasantly surprised by Blackout! I "discovered" the gem that is Arizona! It is very catchy (which I like) and seems like it should have been a "hit"!
No One Like You of course rocks, everyone's heard it. I really enjoyed this album, its thoroughly and consistantly good. Very METAL! So after that I purchased Love at First Sting. I thought I would love that album as well, thinking it would be a progression from Blackout but I'm disappointed in that one! I won't get into that review here but I have to say Love at First Sting makes Blackout sound that much BETTER!.
Scorpions - Blackout
This album rocks from start to finish with hits like the title track, No One Like You, Dynamite, Arizona, China White and Can't Live Without You. Arguably the best hard rock album of all time.
I remember being a child in the 80's when everybody was flying high and this was one the soundtracks to everyone having a good time. Always a great album to play to get in a good mood. An absolute party album.
I like this album so much that I almost got the Blackout guy tatooed on my arm (Thank God I didn't).
