Save the worst for last? I've always thought of SW as being incapable of releasing a bad album. By all means, this is not a bad album, only their weakest of all. But they most definitely have seemed to died down in catchiness. Not only are the tunes simple and straight-forward, but they seem to have reveled a darker side of their traditional emotion, with songs such as I'll Stop The Rain and You're Sorry Now. Some have awkward chord progressions or melodies, such as Erection, or mediocre melodies such as Cat-Like and Pauline. The Edge of the World is among the best. Still, there was no need to end with an additional full-length album, and I believe Thank You Very Little would have been an excellent farewell album. This was still decent though.
greatest sw album?...yea...
guys that are hard on ben, come on,cut the guy some slack, while he said we become what we hate, give him credit for becoming maybe a tad more serious/open but still rockin'. without calling this album "mature" , its great from start to finish with the the usual sing-alongs,tight music, and i still feel assaulted by the drums and heaviness , winding down with the ending tune.
it won't let me change my star rating. 4 stars.
It's a very good album. I reviewed this album a while ago and painted it in bad light. The first two songs "bottom of the 9th" and "gotta Girlfriend" are some of the best Weasel songs put down on paper. I think it's the best one since "Anthems" I highly recommend.
If you don't know who Screeching Weasel is check out, "My brian hurts and "anthems for a new tomorrow"
cool .
Worst Screeching Weasel Yet, Ben Should BE ASHAMED
Thanks Mr. Oh man, my favorite punk band (besides the Ramones) has disappointed me yet again. Foster.
Man, this album is not really not worth buying if you consider yourself a hardcore Weasel fan. It's just a shell of their previous albums.
There is no feeling in the vocals or the beats, man it is a shame.
(And Ben Weasel/Foster's solo album is not any better. )
Everything after HOW TO MAKE ENEMIES, in my opinion, has just gotten worse and worse.
But even though they broke up [yes, again (it's been like 4 or 5 times now)]. Their website says that they are working on a new album. Hopefully it will be better than this one.
Lacks Staying Power
Maybe. This probably deserves 2 and-a-half, maybe three stars. The whole thing sounds to me like "Well, we've(I've)got these songs, they're rehearsed, we have a label, let's record them". That's about it, no real emotional attachment to or involvement with the material. I'm a long time Weasel fan too, but these songs just don't stay with me. Television City Dream is more memorable, and that's saying something. This one sounds a little fatter though, but that's cold comfort. I can't honestly say I wouldn't have put this record out though, there are no Ghandis or Albert Schweitzers in the music industry, Fugazi included, and everybody takes a dive now and again.
