First rate toppings
. SM provide quality-esque, Lips-like alterna-pop with plenty of mysti-sheen production smothered on to elevate much of the writing past its derivative nature into something way more background-savvy-sexy.

Compositional Rock
Drummers will love its strident simplicity, low fi fans will love its simple lines and unorthodox pathways. Breaking the rules of rock, this album really defies categorisation. I just love it from go to whoa and it really cannot be considered song by song, but as a whole. Enjoy .

Even better live
The reason I only give this album four stars is because these songs were that much better live.

Great band with big sound
Not only did they open but they blew the Kings out of the water and in their own home town! This band produced so much sound and rocked so hard I had to get the album. I went to see the Kings of Leon at the historic Ryman Theater in Nashville and the Secret Machines opened for them. This is a tight great sounding album, put it on loud.

WOW, this album is amazing.
I have said to friends before that this band leaves the build up out of what you would find in most rock songs and just sticks to the straight up rocking out. On a surface level you might shrug and go, do we really need another band that draws heavily on the past or a generic overproduced new band that isn't pushing things forward? But look again, this certainly is no throw away, they totally take their inspirations (none of which I can say they individually rip off) but they make an excellent melting pot of heavy, ambient, simple songwriting that just flat out rocks. And before I fail to mention- do yourself a favor and see them live. This album is an excellent one to have cranking in the house, but this is a show that should not be missed either. As for their new one. . . . we'll see what happens, this one gets all my thumbs up.
