Bob Seger - The Savior of Rock 'N Roll
Three momentous events in my life. 1976. I graduated from high school. I enlisted in the United States Navy. And I first heard Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Okay. That last one was a slight exageration but not by much.

If after hearing Night Moves and you do not yearn for your lost days of youth - even if you just got out of high school - than you have no soul. This is one of Bob Seger's main themes in all his albums - prior to this one and after this one. Mary Lou and Sunspot Baby seem to be the same song with different lyrics and music - both about a woman - a man-eater - that breezes through town getting what she wants because of her looks. Rock & Roll Never Forgets will always makes you feel young. The Fire Down Below and Mainstreet are entwinned - the first talks about cruising the streets and the dark shadows of the city, looking for the wrong kind of love and the second makes you know what it feels like at 3 or 4 in the morning, after the bars and clubs close and you end up being alone. Sunburst and Ship of Fools tell little stories. And Come To Poppa - depending on your imagination Seger is either talking to his child or to a former lover - but come what may, if you run into trouble, there will always be help.

Yes - as others have stated - this is Seger's masterpiece. He nearly equals it with Stranger In Town but not quite. Seger - specifically Night Moves, Live Bullet, and A Stranger In Town - got me through the late 70's where too many people fell under the simplistic spell of disco. Thank God for Bob Seger - the man who single-handidly save rock 'n roll!.

"...AIN'T IT FUNNY HOW YOU REMEMBER ?" (Night Moves is a near perfect Bob Seger classic)
It's an almost perfect album. Bob Seger's Night Moves (1976) catapulted the hard working and long deserving rock n' roller into the national spotlight, and it's really no wonder that it did. With the classic title song, the reflective and atmospheric Main Street and some basic hard driving rock n' roll, the album caught on with true rockers who were growing tired of pretentious, wimpy and platform shoe lifted glitter rockers. With Night Moves, Bob Seger offered intelligent rock music with backbone and true grit, sung by a man with a soulful voice who looked and sounded like he could actually back up what he was singing. All-American Rock n' Roll!

The music on Night Moves is mostly basic stuff, but highly enthusiastic with the smart professionalism that road tested experience brings. The Silver Bullet Band plays on half of the songs which were recorded in Bob's hometown of Detroit, and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section plays on the other half, recorded at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama.

Night Moves. Ain't it funny how you remember? The song brings back memories for a lot of people. Who doesn't remember the exuberance of youth and the "awkward teenage blues" that Bob himself so vividly recalls.

We weren't in love, oh no, far from it
We weren't searchin' for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword

Rock And Roll Never Forgets, Sunspot Baby, Mary Lou and the smokin' hot Fire Down Below are all energetic and durable rock n' roll. It's the kind of stuff that rocks with the best, but hangs tough and doesn't lose it's mature and masculine character. Main Street is a classic, one of the best songs of Seger's career. Winding and picturesque, it describes a scene right out of 1950s-60s Main Street, U. S. A. from a young boy's perspective.

In the pool halls, the hustlers and the losers
I used to watch 'em through the glass
Well, I'd stand outside at closing time
Just to watch her walk on past
Unlike all the other ladies she looked so young and sweet
As she made her way alone down that empty street

Come To Poppa is a funky, soulful and pounding strut that Seger works for all it's worth. Great song. There's really nothing on Night Moves to complain about. It's almost perfect, actually. Atmospheric and picturesque in a vivid and personal way, Night Moves touches many people in many different ways. It rocks like there's no tomorrow , wistfully reflects, and lusts for the wild touch of love's madness. Classic in every way, Night Moves is American rock n' roll at it's very best!

He needs more credit
:->. I know it's amazing, someone under 13 is writing a review about Bob Seger. Anyway, Bob Seger is probably the most underated musicians of all time. He is a great singer, song writer, pianist and a good guitar player. This album has awesome songs, I can choose a song at random and be impressed even if it is one of the first times I heard it. Night Moves is a masterpiece, especially Mainstreet. The riffs, the solos and the songs in general are all good. I can't think of a complaint but. . . Bob needs more respect. We hear bout Angus Young not getting enough respect as a guitar player but I know other kids that know Angus' name but not Bobs. So to all you moms and dads expose your children to one of the best men in the music industry. This is a great addition to any collection.
