An Amazing Debut
I bought this album back in 2001 when I was 17, and it quickly became one of my favorite metal cds in my collection, and yes it still is one of my favorites to this day. Not one single word can describe how amazing Sevendust's 1997 self titled debut album truly is. Sevendust are definately one of the better metal bands to come out of the late 90's, and this album made me a fan of theirs right from the start. Sevendust's self titled album is just heavy, aggressive, intense, and bone crushing yet soulful and melodic, it's kinda like Pantera meets Living Colour to me. Believe me, with such amazingly talented musicianship and awesome songwriting, this album totally pawns. Lajon Witherspoon is just an amazingly talented and gifted vocalist. One minute he can go from angry, aggressive barks and bloodcurling screams and growls, to incredibly powerful and soulful melodic singing the next. He is definately one of the best singers in metal I've ever heard. The rest of the musicians are very talented as well. Guitarists Clint Lowery and John Connolly both pummel the listener's ears and senses with awesomely intense, aggressive, bone crunching, bottom-heavy riffs while bassit Vince Hornsby and drummer Morgan Rose provide an awesomely powerful and walloping rhythm section that delivers. Vince's bass is deep and very smooth throughout and I love Morgan's drumming on here, it's simply awesome.

This album is chock full of classic favorites, there's not even one band song on here. "Black" is a classic opening anthem with it's awesomely catchy intro, jagged, pummeling riffs, hefy drum beats, and intense yet passionette vocals. Next, we have "B--ch" which starts off slow and melodic and then it shifts into serious bludgeoning metal territory with loud, hammering drums and crushing, energetic riffs and intense vocals , and shifts back into melodic territory later, and then back to heavier again afterwards. Other songs I also love on here include "Terminator" and "Too Close to Hate" which are both excellent heavy riff monsters (with the former featuring a small element of rap in the verses and the latter featuring more great melodic vocals), while track five "Wired" is a more faster and thrashier cut that boasts energetic, hammering, thrashing drum beats, angry headbanging riffs, and aggressive vocals to boot. Track six "Prayer" is another one of my favorite songs that showcases Lajon's incredible melodic and soulful voice especially during the chorus which is very catchy and great to sing along to. We can't also forget other favorites that include "My Ruin" which is a great semi-ballad which features more great vocals from Lajon, and "Born to Die" is an aggressively, intense closer that boasts hefty, pounding drums, mean, crunching, jagged, headbanging riffs, and more intense vocals, and I also love the machine gun-like riffage and hammering thrashing drum beats near the end. Overall, I highly recommend this amazing album to anyone that is new to Sevendust, believe me, this is definately an excellent place to start if you are new to them. This is truly one of the best metal albums to come out of the late 90's, and it's also Sevendust's best album bar none. Do yourself a favor, don't miss out on this, buy it now!!.

exellent
this is a great item, and great buy! one of the most hard bands out there! sevendust rocks.

Unbelievable
Once I heard the rest, I found it hard to believe that this was the same Sevendust that put out hit songs like "Waffle" and "Praise. I had heard songs like "Black" and "Too Close To Hate" before I had purchased the cd, but it was barely scratching the surface. " It is in fact the exact same line-up that went on to record three more albums together before guitarist Clint Lowery left (he has recently returned). By no means is this a nu-metal album, but than again, I never thought of the band that way. Unlike their other releases, this one is the most angry, and has a sound that kinda reminds me of the permeating groove metal of bands like Pantera and Machine Head. Call me crazy, but that's what comes to my mind. Everything after this record truly sounds different, but that's not a bad thing considering nobody wants to make the same album twice. However, do not pass this one up. It is not one to be overlooked.
