No love for "Fear"?
I guess I'll just come out and say, as of right now, I think I've enjoyed Hope and Sorrow more than any other 7D album, and I would easily rank it with Animosity, Sevendust, Home, no question. First of all, forgive me for making this so long. I'll also add that I never expected this to happen after never really falling in love with Next or Alpha. Although, this "resurgence" with Hope and Sorrow has helped me go back and listen to the previous two albums with more of an open mind and I've grown on the songs from Next and Alpha much more than I had. I think that says a lot about this latest offering.

But I wanted do somthing a little different and go into a specific song. I think it's interesting to hear people's opinions and what they get out of Sevendust's music. I've noticed the song "Fear" hasn't really been on the top of anyone's lists as far as stand-out favorites. That's fine. It does happen to be my favorite track. And I think for altogether different reasons then I've liked 7D music before.

First of all, the interlude reminds me of the interlude from "My Ruin" on Sevendust, kind of a dreamy state of hopeless, raw temptation, so to say. Now I'll admit I didn't warm up to the almost marching cadence of the song's opening at first, it is what it is and people will take it for what it is.

But it's what's later which makes me just adore the production that went into the song. The "marching" kinda slows up, gets griddy, and then I hear this guitar sound (at about 1:05 it really shows up, and then at 1:52) that I've never heard. It's also accompanied, later, by the whiny, shrill cuts of Sonny's guitar.

I don't know a lot of guitar jargon and don't know the science and technique behind playing guitar. I just know that this songs provides some of the best guitar I've ever heard from any band. Go to 3:17, listen to it start, and then it's just bass, drums, Morgan goes off, and then at 4:17, everthing is forgiven as LJ says my favorite lines "of course I saw you stumble. . always a step ahead. . "

I guess it's not just the guitar, I think the whole song comes together beautifully. Maybe it's not the "full contact sport" riffs of "7D" and "Home", but it's a more polished and still heavy dose of metal.

I really like the whole connected "set" of songs from track 1 through 5. I think "Fear" is a perfect ending to that set.

My least favorite songs on the album are "The Past" and "Prodigal Son. Don't get me wrong, they're great songs, they just kinda feel out of place on the album to me. But trust me when I say that usually the songs I least connect with become my new favorites months down the road. Perhaps I just like leaving some for later.

Favorites: Inside, Enough, Scapegoat, Fear, Lifeless. .


Absolute heavenly music to any hard rock fan.

This band has never failed to deliver great hard rock sounds. This has been one of my favourite bands since i first heard "Black" off their self-tittled album back in 97. In all honesty, i would recommend purchasing every c. d. this band has produced. Each one is as good as the last. This band rocks, SERIOUSLY! My only fault with this group is that i wish they would come to Australia more often. Get their sounds NOW!.

i gotta say their self titled and Home albums are the only real good albums this band released.


Average
If you think any different you are a loser. This band is average. Every album sounds the same. I own all the original albums. I would never see this band live, but I like some of their studio albums. I think this is the last album I buy from them. They all sound the same. Their best album I think is 2001. Love that album. Very pop sounding with Arron Lewis on vocals for a song. This album isn't bad, but it's more of the same. I thought it would be better given some of the guests on it. .


Sevendust Freak
I love this band and this new album is amazing!! I've had the opportunity to see these guys live, meet them a few times, and own every album! I think this is probably the best album since 'Animosity'! Although it's too bad Sonny Mayo departed as soon as the album was completed, at the same time, it's good to see Clint back in the lineup! These guys NEVER dissapoint me!!.
