Catchy rhymes, cheeky humour and some heavy ragga beats

This energetic album reminds us that Shaggy wasn't always the `pop Superstar' he has now become, but was once an extremely talented reggae artist. Shaggy - `Original Doberman'. Check out this top class album which is packed with catchy rhymes, cheeky humour and some heavy ragga beats.
Shaggy has been the most successful Jamaican artist from the last few years, winning Grammies, having a succession of number 1s and being an all round International Superstar. . . and `Original Doberman' is where it all began. It includes his massive hit `Bullet-Proof Buddy' and four catchy tunes with Rayvon (Including an outstanding dancehall version of Stevie Wonder's `Lately'), who manages to add a sweet and soulful flavour to the music. And I have to mention `Chow', featuring the legendary Sugar Minott, which is definitely one of the highlights of the album, along with the tracks `Man A Yard', and `Wild Fire'.
The amount of energy in this classy album is amazing; it truly deserves to be released as a classic. Turn your speakers up to full volume and check it out. I can promise you, you won't be disappointed!.


Original Doberman, Original Shaggy
If you are a longtime shaggy fan, you may still have missed this one. If you think Hot Shot is Shaggy's first album, you need to go get all the other ones that came before. Pick it up! This album lets you see where Shaggy came from, in terms of musical roots. His current music is very pop-influenced, like most of the reggae/hip-hop that is out there. However, Shaggy's style, along with artists like Buju Banton, Pato Banton, Shabba Ranks, Mad Lion, et all, originated in the "Dancehall" style. This album really gives you a good example of very vocal dancehall style.

Well worth the time and money!.


Early Shaggy - not quite on his feet yet.
It seems like a demo CD or something, emphasis on the vocals (understandably) but not as much attention put to the music itself. At this early stage of his career, it doesn't seem like Shaggy had developed his pop sensibilities. What I usually like so much about shaggy is his ability to mix reggae and pop, and it's just not that way on this CD. Seems like an awkard beginning stage for him, but if you're a big fan of him, I'm sure you'll enjoy this CD.
