Disappointed Total lack of energy. I am very disappointed in this CD. Vonda is very talented, and I loved her Ally music. To me, other than Confetti, every song on this CD was unlistenable. Vonda has a tendency to go for very non-melodic, even painful sequences with her voice. It just doesn't flow. .
A word about the duet
I have yet to find an artist that is a true original, unique to the music world. Every person's musical sophistication deepens when they break from tradition and listen to something different from what they normally play. All artists are influenced by those that came before them and are presently around them.
I love the Indigo Girls. I have heard their music mature over the last twelve years that I've been following them.
I went to their concert in LA yesterday and was amazed at how good they sounded. Then an artist I didn't know and had never heard from before took the stage and played/sang a duet with Emily. It was absolutely beautiful. They sang so well together. After the song ended there was dead silence in the concert hall-everyone was mesmerized. Then the hall broke out into thunderous applause.
A friend told me who the mystery artist was after the show and I am now buying two of her own cds based on that one single event.
I'm concerned that the "Editor" above is clearly biased against the Indigo Girls. Amy and Emily are wonderful singers and Vonda wouldn't have sang with Emily unless she felt it would reveal a deeply beautiful side of the song possibly overlooked the first time around.

One of the best CD's ever
Vonda has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard and I love her poetic use of words and music. I first bought this CD back in 1999 when it came out, and it is still one of my all-time favorites and most frequently played CD's. Producer Mitchell Froom (now Vonda's husband!) adds creative instrumentation and polished sound to Vonda's songs, and they sound simply amazing! This CD is perfect to listen to at anytime- whether you are relaxing on your front porch with a cold drink, getting ready to go out, or taking a walk around your neighborhood. .
Very Good
I love her vocal range and intensity. Vonda Shepard has put out a great CD here. Baby Don't Break my Heart Slow and You and Me are especially good songs. Emily Saliers is a perfect complement to Shepard's voice on the former.
Very different from Ally
This is unfortunately not the case. I have all of the Ally Mc Beal Collection and when I bought this CD I was hoping for something similar in sound. Most of the songs have this underground sound that predominates over Vonda's Voice and thus make your head hurt. My recommendation: Listen before you buy.
