I love Silverchair! I'm a long time Silverchair fan, and I hope the guys come out with another CD even after this. They impress me once again. They just keep supplying me with really good songs. I enjoyed this CD so much. "The Man that knew too much" is my repeat over and over fave. I also love "All Across the world". I can't wait for them to come out with another album, they have been awesome all these years. .
Age and Wisdom does a band good!
This music is more enjoyable to sing along too than anything I have encountered. If you are a 30 - 50 year old that still loves to rock out this is the cd for you! I drop the kids off at school and blast the volume like I was 17 again. I was too old to appreciate the musical genious of Daniel Johns the first time this group was successful in America but thank goodness they have returned to the USA and I didn't miss the boat this time. In a age of lip synching, non instrument playing, non musical writing groups this band comes through and reminds me that every now and then the "real deal" still exists and boy are these guys it! I pulled my journey cd's out and replaced it with Young Modern as my new favorite cd. A more passionate band doesn't exists and it looks like age and wisdom has done Daniel and the band alot of good. Rock on Silverchair!.
Great band, great disc
Songs like "Those thieving birds", "All across the world" or "Reflections of the sound" are so nice. Yes, you can say that Silverchair is not the same band from 90, but "Young modern" is a great disc. The dvd has interviews and shows the making of the disc.
Cha-cha-changes
Daniel is clean and changed. Same group different sound. Their sound is different then past records but a touch of certain sounds where they did experiment with different melodies now they hit it differently full time here and it works. I have the CD in my car now and the songs wear on you. .
A Huge Disappointment...
Here you have 3 guys with a lot of talent (with several albums that show they know how to use it) and they throw it all away by trading their raw, melodic vocals for a whiny half-yodel, and a horrible mixing job that drowns out all guitar and bass. I recently had the displeasure of partaking in this "album" and I have to say: What a waste. What you have left is a miserable attempt at experimentation that ends up sounding like a prepubescent boy just learned his first chord at his piano lesson. There are actually several songs where the majority of what you'll hear is one piano chord (one and ONE ONLY) banging away in rhythm. That's it. Perhaps a better key/synth player is in order???
The lyrics and singing are also very, VERY boring. Not once, during the entire album, did I think "Hmm, that's an interesting piece of writing. " Daniel Johns' obviously tries to make his vocals inspired and epic. . . . ultimately they fall way short of the mark.
In summation: This album is NOT rock. Or pop. IMO it barely classifies as music with it's horrible structure and unending monotony. If you want an album that rocks, is epic, has great vocals, and knows exactly how to use an orchestral/keyboard arrangement to enhance the music. . . . buy Within Temptations "The Heart of Everything". . . . . . . . and leave YOUNG MODERN where it belongs: the dustbin.
