Noise Pop at its finest, dreamy songs and a good way to relive the early 90s It has a number of alternative radio hits, "I Am One," "Siva," "Rhinoceros," and the rockin' "Tristessa" None of the hits are nearly as good or notable as any of Smashing Pumpkins other top songs. This is a good CD, short compared to some other Smashing Pumpkins albums at 45 minutes. Mostly because the lyrics don't stand out, but the grungy music sure does stand out.
This album is noise pop at its best and I mean that in a good way. It's all the drums, good chaotic guitar riffs, and singer Billy Corgan's vocals pale in comparison. Aside from the noise pop, there are some really good, mellow, dreamy songs like "Rhinoceros," "Crush," and "Suffer. " The dreamy, slow side of the album is a great way to balance everything out. Even the mellow songs have their unique qualities, like "Window Paine" builds nicely from a slow start and "Rhinoceros" has a guitar solo in the middle and at the end that make the song very radio friendly. A lot of the songs feel very good to relax at the end of a day and chill out.
If you're looking to relive the 90s or have the "pre-success pumpkins," then please pick up this album. If you're just a casual fan looking for pumpkins, then try "Siamese Dream" or "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. "

Great buy
It sounds more like Siamese Dream than any of their other stuff, but even still no two Pumpkins albums are the same. Not my favorite album, but definitely worth purchasing. It was great to hear what their debut album sounds like to see the progression of their music over time, not to say that they wouldn't have been fin sounding like this for awhile.
Beware aware of what you are buying...
The description says Audio CD. This is a great album by a great band and it's sad they didn't make more music like this, but be aware. . . it is actually a Vinyl Album record. I kept it anyway, because I love the record but the description still hasn't been corrected to show what you will actually be receiving.
there are too many quiet and very slow tracks
It's one of my favourite alltime tracks. I got the album because of "I am one".
very special indeed
I was around 19 or 20 when I first heard it. This album means a lot to me. I was late getting turned onto them, I took notice like many people did, when the Pumpkins more popular 2nd album "Siamese Dream" came out. Siamese Dream is a great album, but "GISH!" Man, this was the album for me! The overall trippy-psychedelic, melancholia of the album was exactly where I was at, at this particular period in my life. Siamese Dream is more of an upbeat album, whereas, Gish has more depth of soul, substance, vision, etc. if you ask me. I read that Billy Corgan was going through some depression when he wrote and recorded Gish. I'm sure this is why I could relate (being a young man, searching for his place in the world). I really wore this album out! I loved it (still do), it's a classic, perfect album. If I was to make a top 500 albums of all time, this one would be on it. Maybe, it would make my top 100, I have no clue? Anyway, I just know that while I'm writing this, I'm listening to it now, some 12 years later from the first time I heard it. Not many people are even aware of this album. But, many kids today aren't even aware of Siamese Dream! Or, Nirvana's "Bleach" album. It's funny actually.
***Note: The best songs on the album I think are: "Crush," "Suffer," "Snail," and "Window Paine. " Those songs alone are worth buying the album (I know that sounds cliche, but, I really believe it to be true). .
