Smithereens Rock Prior to Smithereens 11, they released two excellent albums and an EP, but they reached their creative and commercial peak with this album. The Smithereens are an underappreciated band who has put out some great music but have never garnered the national attention they deserved. The band have always wore their 60's influences on their sleeves (even the title of the album is a take off on the Rat Pack's Las Vegas crime movie, Ocean's Eleven) and the album perfectly combines the clanging guitars of a garage band with the sweet harmonies of a pop act. "A Girl Like You" was the band's only Top 40 single and is a guitar-driven rocker while "Blue Period" contains a string section and harmony vocals by Go-Go Belinda Carlisle. "Yesterday Girl" has a pop feel as does "William Wilson" while "Room Without A View" has a harder edge. Overall, Smithereens 11 is like a history lesson for students of 60's music updated with a modern rock feel and for the cutout price that Amazon is offering it at is one of the steals of the site.
