Terrific Band
I will match Lightbody's vocal abilities with any rock singer. I recently saw Snow patrol open for Coldplay in nashville, then I purchased tickets for their show @ the legendary Ryman Auditorioum in Oct. Snow patrol is a mature creative band that is terrific live.
this is coming from a guy from the hood
i'm a brother. i've been a fan of hip hop for years but in the last few years,i've been getting into rock and alternative. with that said, this album is awesome. i just can't stop listening to it. it's ridiculous. first of,gary lightbody's vocals are some of the best i ever heard in any genre. he just has a way of drawing the listener in with his lyrics effortlessly. second, there was only two tracks i didn't like. i can't get whatever's left, ways and means, and tiny little fractures out of my head. on top of that, gleaming auction was brilliant, somewher a clock is tickling is epic. i could picture scenarios when listening to it. that's the thing with this album. it just sticks in your head and doesn't let go. i have all of their albums and i gotta say final straw is their best. in fact after listening to snow patrol, i can't listen to coldplay no more. they sound bland. please get this cd. i'm done.
Starting to feel the chills
. SP still had plenty of teen-aged blandness with their breakthrough major, but with focus on distilled balladry, a sincere beauty seeps into even the simplest of chord changes.
Running In The Spitting Games For Chocolate
When I called this album "Silently Brilliant," I must correct that statement by calling this album "Silently Mediocre. I must make a correction. " Sorry, but I listened to the album again, and it just isn't that good. It's not even good as a whole, some songs are good, yes. But the album screams boring and mediocrity.
For highlights, "Chocolate" is of course a very sweet song, "Run" hits high marks when it's in chorus mode, and "Spitting Games" makes for a good upbeat rock song. Other than that, the album is filled with forgettable, boring and otherwise mediocre songs that never really capture your attention, or lead anywhere. Gordon Lightbody is good as always, but the quality of the songs don't match his talent. And in cases such as "Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking," the song title is better than the actual song.
Overall, I've heard it before, and I've heard it better. Although there are a few good songs, the project is underwhelming, and frankly a disappointment. You'd think otherwise by reading other reviews of the album, but don't be fooled. Bad start on the big stage for Snow Patrol, aka Polar Bear.
Real Score: 2. 5.
Finally a modern Indie Rock SACD!
This multichannel surround sound SACD sounds superb with good mixes. Excellent album. I had the previous CD version and this elevates the experience, as we are all used to, with well recorded SACD. No longer available in the UK I bought from Amazon. com
If only there were more modern Indie Rock like this available on SACD instead of the usual dinosaurs!
Highly recommended.
