This abum blows my mind !!!This is the best Bruce Springsteen CD I own,I own all but Tom Joad and his first 2. I received this CD set as a gift. From the stripped down Thunder Road to the slow shuffle Of The E Street Shuffle to the incendiary Kitty's Back this CD showcases Bruce and the band at there rawest and hungriest. They play and sing like this was the last show they were ever going to do. It does not get much better then this. If you are a fan of Classic Rock or The Boss you owe it to yourself to own this album.
Pure Bruce - a concert that launched an international following
But Bruce and the E Street Band doing what they do best - entertain - exceeded all expectations in 1975. As the intro will explain, Bruce's entree to the UK was with high expectation - high pressure. It is one of his finest performances - certainly one of the best live performances which Bruce has thus far released. I have most of the Bruce Live concerts including NYC, Barcelona and Dublin. This is a necessary edition to that collection. In fact, when I'm in the mood for Bruce - this is the concert to which I most often watch/listen.
This DVD is included in the 30 year anniversary edition of the "Born to Run" album and the audio is also available separately as the audio quality and the Band's selection of songs is well worth the price for those road trips where E Street Band accompaniment is required.
Some might suggest that the video (lighting) leaves something to be desired but it was 1975 - it's not dark per se - I would call it more of a mood-setting experience.
I'll save you the play list - but it has most of the classics up to that point in time.
Enjoy !!! .
Incendiary.
This two disc 1975 concert is culled from the first of two legendary appearances at London's Hammersmith Odeon. Even at this fairly stage in his career (they were just on the cusp of super stardom thanks to "Born To Run"), Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band were already well established as the heart stoppin', pants droppin', earth quakin', air conditioner shakin' force of nature that would later ignite record players and more importantly concert stages around the world. The energy level on these two cds is brain melting. Bruce and the band blast through hard hitters like "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," "It's Hard To Be Saint In The City," (with killer piano work from Professor Roy Bittan), "Kitty's Back," (with an epic jam showing off the respective musical talents of each band member, most notably a thrilling jazz excursion by Danny Federici - R. I. P. ), "Rosalita," the "Detroit Medley," and the closing "Quarter To Three" with jackhammer force, and even slower numbers, such as a dramatically reimagined "The E Street Shuffle," "4th Of July, Asbury Park," and the haunting piano only version of "For You," all have an extra edge to them that makes them superior to their studio version. "Born To Run" had not yet become the anthem it is today, but Bruce and band sure play it like they know they're going to be playing it every night for the next 34 (and counting years), as this is possibly the most passionate and exciting version of the song ever concocted. "She's The One" builds to an explosive climax. "Lost In The Flood" is hair on the back of your neck raising intense. "Backstreets" and "Jungleland" are absolutely breathtaking in both their beauty and their ferocity.
The sound quality on this recording is astounding. You feel like the band is right there in living room, and the audience is audible enough to the point where you feel like your part of a real concert.
This is a must have collection for all fans of rock music and Bruce Springsteen.
one of the greatest live albums ever
I'll confess I don't like all of them, although I do admire his continued attempts at growth as an artist. Bruuuuuuuuce has gone through a number of transformations.
This album was when he was first on the cusp of greatness, and if you listen, you'll know why. This album features many of the great works from his masterpiece second and third albums--and it MAKES masterpieces out of several initially underwhelming pieces from the first. The band is featured in ways it rarely would again. There are some significant reinventions, some great jams.
Most crucially of all, it is tremendously raw. You can hear the hecklers, the scratchiness of Bruce's voice, the occasional bad attempt at improv banter, the screech of the mic. Bruce is great live, but his other live albums don't translate the energy. This is a marvel precisely because it is so vulnerable, so unpolished in spots.
The definitive live album from Bruce, and probably among the top 5 live albums from anyone. Particular gems are For You (which sends shivers down my spine), Sandy, Kitty's Back, E Street Shuffle, Spirit in the Night, and Lost in the Flood. Even She's the One, which I think is a dud of a song, doesn't sound half-bad here.
The timbre of the instrumentation is great, too. Roy and Steve in particular shine. .
Springsteen live in London
And it's one of the best Springsteen albums i own! She's the One & Kitty's Back are awesome. This is one of the most fabulous albums i've ever listened to.
