Beneath Between Beyond.
This is basically for big fans of Static-X, collecting rare songs not on albums, remixes, and demos. I'll start off saying, don't let this be your first Static-X album, get Wisconsin Death Trip first. The first nine songs are just rare/new songs. They're quite the mix, some sound like WDT, some like Machine, and some like Shadow Zone. I pretty much can listen to the first nine songs. The demos, well, it's cool they decided to add them, but theirs not quite much difference in them from the real songs, except maybe not as good quality recording. The covers are just OK. and the same goes for the mixes. I'd recommend this if you're a big SX fan, if not, I'd pass on it.

Cool remixes, rare songs and b-sides.
I would not recommend a casual listener to buy this, because it is not a regular release, but there are plenty of reasons to pick it up. If you are a fan, this is a must-have set. I do not usually like remixes, but these are done so well and while I always like the studio cuts better, I still find myself coming back to this cd. There is enough solid material on this cd to make it a good value. Some remix/rare song compilations are just rip-offs. I consider this to be one of the best I have ever purchased in that category.

Why two stars cause only two songs are worthy of stars
It is up to your musical taste if you wish to listen to the rest of the cd. Anything but this is like the usual Static X as well as Burning Inside. This cd is the turning point in there music. Wisconsin and Machine are similar then Shadow Zone is it's own cd then all the new stuff sounds the same. If you like a more main stream sound from Static X this is your cd they change it up alot and most of it is catchy but some does suck listen and find out.

Eh
With that said the demos are pretty cool to see how much the songs changed for the album from their conception. In my opinion I think that to really dig this album you have to be a pretty devout Static-X fan because there is nothing is not too much on this disc that is plain outstanding but it is a good collection of songs nonetheless. Also the inclusion of "Crash" with Mephisto Odyssey, which has always been one of my favorites, is a nice treat. The one thing on this disc that totally makes it worth it is the cover of The Ramones "Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" is so awesome that I would probably buy the disc just for those two minutes. The rest of the songs are decent but definitely not classics. Also if you are looking at this disc for the remixes look away because they are just downright terrible. A good overview of their stuff outside of the albums though.

Good B-side collection
They neatly arrange all the B-sides into an easy to find and relatively inexpensive album, as opposed to hunting down all the singles and soundtracks (which is not only a pain in the rear, but costs a lot more more money. I am a fan of B-side collections. )

However, it still only gets 3 stars. Why? Because it's not really anything amazing. The B-sides are good for B-sides, but they're obviously B-sides for a reason. The completely original songs, eight total, are a bit varied, and sort of fit into four two-song sections. The first two tracks, "Breathe" and "Deliver Me" are mediocre suncooked metal tracks that remind me a bit of the Pantera side-project Down. "Anything But This" and "S. O. M. " are two of Static-X's heaviest songs and are actually probably my favorites on this album. "Head" and "Down" most resemble Static-X's album tracks and could have fit on Wisconsin Death Trip or Machine, although I'm kind of glad they didn't. Last, "So Real" and "Crash" are largely electronic, harking back to the band's days as an unsigned band when they were more techno than metal.

This part could have made a good little EP by itself, but to satisfy the completionists, they included cover songs, remixes, and a few demos as well. The covers are decent, except the Ramones cover which I don't like because I don't like the Ramones at all.

The remixes aren't very good. . . all they do is bury the songs under a load of extra electronic noise. I like remixes that completey warp the song and make into an almost entirely new song. These remixes don't accomplish that exactly, and could have been left off without any complaint from me.

The demos are also pretty much worthless. They're just low budget recordings of basically the same songs you hear on the albums. This would have interested me more if it was recordings of their old songs from their formative techno days, but the songs are 100% recognizable. The biggest change is the feel of the drums in "No Pain" (a bit slower) and some parts that are missing (including the death metal intro) in "Get to the Gone. "

I would be just as happy with this album if they had dropped the demos and remixes, and even the covers wouldn't be a big loss. If you're not already a fan of the band, this is probably not the place to start. However, I feel it is worth it for the 8 real B-sides in the first half of the CD. Just don't expect anything that compares to the albums.
