What can I say? I'm addicted to Static-X! Throughout the last 10 years, I have enjoyed every single one of their albums as they have been released with no exceptions, and I enjoy this new one as well. Ever since the release of their very first album titled Wisconsin Death Trip, I have been a member of the Cult of Static-X. Cult Of Static is one of Static-X's best albums. All of the tracks on this CD are enjoyable, but my most favorites would have to be Hypure, Z28, Stingwray, and Skinned. Unfortunately, the best new song is one that is not even available on this version of the album, and can only be obtained on another extended version that has two additional tracks titled W. F. O. , and a Cover of Motley Crue's Looks That Kill. The song W. F. O. (Wide Fn' Open) is one of the best songs that Static-X has ever done, and if you can get the version of Cult of Static which has that track on it, get it, it is definitely worth it. Looks That Kill is pretty good also. There is yet another new song available for download on the internet only and it is a cover of Poison's song titled Talk Dirty To Me, and that one is not very good, in my opinion. The song sounds like it was sung by the Cookie Monster, and it is one of the very few songs done by Static-X that I do not enjoy. It is almost laughable when you hear it, but, I just find it to be more annoying than anything.

Dave Mustaine RUINS Static X
MOST of the music produced in this album would stand up along with their earlier works, save but one addition who knows why they had to add. So, having been a very loyal Static X fan since the first album, I am sorry to say but I am ashamed that this CD graces my collection. Was it a tribute to Dave? Was it a will to hear the lost late 90s speed metal solos that destroyed our ears?
Whatever reasoning, it is terrible. I get so angry when I waste my money. I thought this would be a sure thing. I should have spent it on 2 beers.
Shame on you Wayne Static for allowing your latest album to be so sub-par.
honestly...
The songs are repetitive and redundant, and the production is cardboard-flat. This album is just horrible. Wayne Static, who used to tear it up no matter what he did (shrieking, growling, singing, etc. ), barks in one annoying pitch for the entire album over uninspired and boring riffs. Multiple songs are about Wayne's new pornstar wife. I mean, i just don't give a [. . . ], especially if the music is subpar. Which this is in every way.
I really don't know what happened; in my opinion, Wisconsin Death Trip through Start A War was all quality. Cannibal was alright, but this. . . I mean, it's just bad. Maybe they were just really drunk or something. Really though, don't waste your money.
De Ja Vu?
So many songs I found myself thinking, "Hang on a tic, I swear I've heard this before". If I don't pay attention to this album playing, I don't actually realise that it's a new album. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. Sure, it's good when a band sticks to their roots, but I just think that this sounds like the past few albums a little too much. It feels like there's nothing really new here. I think it might be time this band stop churning out albums so fast, and take a bit of a breather, because it's all starting to sound the same and run into each other.
Pure X-stacy
If you like them, you will like this. Consistency, You know what your getting with Static X. As you can tell by the title and CD cover (featuring many little Wayne's in the background which is clever as hel*) you see that they are their own entity and have their little 'Cult' fan-base at this point that will support the band. Those fans wont be disappointed.
Just as heavy as 'Cannibal' and yes, maybe as simplistic. Look, this is their niche now, just brutal (in an athletic- pump you up way), straight stomping tracks. If you work out or run, doubt you will need an energy drink when listening to the X. Nothing fancy, but if you like their stuff, you'll get your fix with this. Short, to the point, groove tinged assaults on the senses. Works for me.
There are solo's again and I have come to enjoy that dimension now in their songs. Again, nothing real special, but adds time to the tracks and a different rhythm feel in spots. Lets them sneak in a little creatively, but not that much.
The opening track 'Lunatic' has a canny-techno drum sound that is cool in its own way. Its a good opener with Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) on it.
'Z28' is typical Static X. As are 'Hypure', 'Stingwray', 'Isolatore' and 'Nocturnally'. Exactly what you would expect Just energy-pumped tracks of simple riffs and over the top vocals (of course). Good Static X material.
'Terminal' is a strong track with a nice chorus that should have been the radio track.
'You Am I' is heavy as he**. Dark and techno tinged. My favorite track.
'Skinned' could have been off of 'WDT' as it sounds a lot in the vein of that disc. Old school Static.
'Tera-fied' is'nt the greatest. .
You get the idea. All I can say is don't read the negative reviews if you like the band. They aren't the greatest songwriters, but neither were AC/DC. Their energetic formula and vocal delivery work. The crisp sound production and mix definitely help as well. Like 'Cannibal', its a wall of controlled sound. These songs don't take brain surgery, they just sound real dam* good!
Repetitive? Maybe, but you know what to expect by now. It wont change the world, but is fun, heavy and I am glad I picked it up. Not everything needs to be 'different' so long as it works.
The complainers should just stop whining at this point. They have NEVER really strayed from their original sound except for a little less sampling. I mean really their last 3 discs were quite similar (their whole catalog isn't that much different), so if you don't like the last 2? Oh well. . . .
Just wish there were a few more tracks.
