Sublime CD CD was in perfect condition. Shipping was right on time.
Great experience!
Thanks.
Some great tracks on this one
There are some very good ones, and some not so good ones. I'm just going to say that the tracks on here are good and bad. I guess the best way to do this would be go song by song and say what I thought of them.
1. Wrong Way--Too short, with crowd noise, not so good.
2. Saw Red--Probably one of the best tracks on the CD. Very crisp and I think it's better than the original version.
3. Foolish Fool--I liked this one as well, but not to the extent of Saw Red.
4. Don't Push--By far the best track on the CD. I really like what he did with this classic song.
5. Mary/Big Salty Tears--Good, but not great. I like the Mary song and then he goes into Big Salty Tears by the Ziggens. There are some really good parts to this track, and some are just crowd noise.
6. Boss DJ--Not bad and it is definitely not as good as the original, but it is pretty good nonetheless.
7. Garden Grove--Didn't like this version because he kind of mumbles through some of the lyrics and there is a lot of crowd noise.
8. Rivers of Babylon--Good song, about as good as original.
9. Little District--I really enjoyed this song. I hadn't heard it before, so it was a nice surprise. It sounded like a Bob Marley cover, but I'm not sure.
10. KRS-One--I thought this one was really good, even though there was crowd noise in parts, but amazing CD.
11. Marley Medley--It was okay. I wouldn't say it was one of the better tracks. Only certain parts were good.
12. What Happened/Eye of Fatina--It wasn't bad, but it wasn't close to the quality of the songs on the rest of the CD that were good.
13. Freeway time in LA County Jail--I enjoyed it and it is very mellow. One of the better songs on this CD.
14. Pool Shark--Really good version of Pool Shark. One of Bradley's best short songs.
15. It's Who You Know--Too short and I don't get it.
If you're a hardcore Sublime fan, you'll enjoy a few of these tracks. Overall, it's a good CD to listen to when you're in a laid back mood. Don't Push is by far the best, with Saw Red close behind. Foolish Fool and Pool Shark, also Rivers of Babylon and Little District, Krs-one are worth listening to. Give it a shot. Mary wasn't bad either.
Bradley Nowell and Friends - Acoustic
If you are expecting something to sound like the Sublime songs, you will be disappointed. I love this CD. This is Bradley Nowell. The music is rough and raw but that is what I really love about it. It is like he is playing in the room. He is laughing, he messes up, he is stoned, he is doing what he does best. The lyrics are much more heartfelt and honest than the Sublime CDs (not that I don't love those also. )
Listening to this CD makes me wonder even more what we lost when Bradley died. He was an incredible talent. .
There's a bit of sentimental value here, but that's about it.
And I should have expected it - this album was put out 2 years after Bradley's death. I had high hopes for this album when I bought it, but was ultimately disappointed. It appears that when these songs were recorded, it was never with the intention of placing them on an album, so don't expect studio-quality sound if you decide to give it a listen.
To make matters worse, some songs are a lot shorter than their studio versions, and some songs are live recordings yet not labeled so on the case. You might find some sentimental value here if you're a die-hard Sublime fan, but I'd prefer to remember them at their finest. .
One of the last documents we will see from the great Bradley Nowell.
Not that it mattered; Sublime's performances depended upon many things: energy; spontanaeity; and, ultimately, what their audiences gave them in return. Let's face it: Sublime had charisma; they had energy; they had it all, but they weren't exactly the tightest band when it came to their live shows. But even then, those things didn't elevate the shows to godly heights. Sometimes. . . well, more than sometimes, Brad was simply off his nut, and all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't tighten things up as they should have been.
But it doesn't matter now, does it?
Listening to this cd is the musical equivalent of hanging out at a laid back party, having a beer and a b**g-hit, chillin' with your buddies and groovin' to some sweet music brought to you courtesy Bradley Nowell, one of the greater songwriters of the last twenty years. While it's incredibly rich on atmosphere, Brad doesn't exactly nail it in every song. A lot of the time it sounds as though he's already had more to drink or smoke than you have, but hey, again, it doesn't matter, because these last few records from Sublime will serve as the final documents of a superbly brilliant songwriter, the likes of which we won't see again for some time.
Nowell wrote from the heart and he sang his heart at every step. Few singers have shown themselves to be as emotionally direct or as honest as he had been. He wasn't overly preoccupied with finger pointing or rooting out hypocrites as lesser songwriters are apt to do. He was genuine, and he wasn't afraid to wear it on his sleeve, flaws and all.
Bye, Brad.
