This Is Truly the Story of the early 70's Supremes Together these three ladies put their hearts and souls into every song, because they are all naturally talented and they loved their profession. The CD set says it all! Jean, Mary and Cindy are magnificent, and they really have a group sound. With the proper promotion these LP's would have been high on the charts. I'm so happy that Universal Music is giving many people a chance to enjoy their spirit, harmonies and deep affection for feeling what they sing! What a fabulous reunion tour the early 70's Supremes would be.
Lower the price
00 for three disc! Why is this priced so high?
It's a great CD but come on lower the price!
Thank You,
Scott Kupitz. $69.
This Is The Story
1 1970-1973: The Jean Terrell Years
A fabulous treasure! From "Right On" to ". This Is the Story: The '70s Albums, Vol. . . Jimmy Webb. " The collection every Supremes fan should have. Jean Terrell took her place in the group that had a historic run with the fabulous Diana Ross and did a hell of a job as lead vocalist. This line up of the Supremes were my obsession during the seventies! The ladies started out of the gate with "Up The Ladder To The Roof" and "Everybody's Got The Right To Love" and the classic "Stoned Love. " The hits kept coming but Motown fell back on their support of the group and the gems contained in this box set would get little to no airplay or promotion. Songs like "Bad Weather," "Here Comes The Sunrise" (which is my all time favorite) "Touch" (which was offered up as a very badly edited single). I would recommend this set to any music lover. "Once In The Morning" where Jean Terrell duets with Jimmy Webb, "5:30 Plane" and I guess I'll Miss The Man" which shows Jean at her vocal best. The funky "Shine On Me" and "It's Time to Break Down. " The only thing missing here are the songs the ladies recorded with the Four Tops. There is a special re-issue rumored to be released sometime this year of all the Tops and Supremes duets. I hope it's true. There are so many great songs on this set. Buy it! You will not be disappointed! It is the Supremes at their very best! .
It's about time!
Given the fact that Barry Gordy pretty much let the Jean Terrel Supremes go with minimum support to boost Diana's solo career, a fact well documented in Mary Wilson's autobiography, these albums are solid examples of the talent represented by the ladies left to carry on the groups legacy. After owning the first cd releases of these albums done back in the mid to late 80's with flat remastering for the era, it's a sonic treat to hear these albums given the upgrade they so deserve. Jean Terrell had the voice to lead the very talented support behind her and you hear it on these wonderfully remastered disc's. Gems aplenty on all disc's, too many to mention hear, but definately well worth the price. Hopefully interest in this first volume will bring about the release of vol. 2 very soon!.
Best group of Supremes
Motown should have taken this particular lineup and promote them to the limit. I have all of these albums individually on vinyl and have had them since they were released. They would have had two super attractions like Ed Sullivan said at their farewell "one of the greatest attractions of the sixties becomes two of the greatest attractions of the seventies" that would have been so true. I loved The Supremes from start to finish. I also loved Diana Ross until 1979 and then i just did'nt care for her music anymore. I am now a devout Mary Wilson fan. I believe that Motown was afraid if they promoted the Supremes like they should have, they would have outshined Diana Ross. I think that they should have given as much attention to the Supremes and they did Ross and just let the cards lay where they would have. I am sure they would have been bigger than Diana Ross, but that is only my opinion, I know that I kept buying albums by both but followed the Supremes closer. The original Supremes will always be my favorite but my 2nd best lineup is definately Mary, Cindy and Jean they were superb and Motown missed out on a very good attraction, They could have brought in just as much money as Ross if not more. Anyway, I am sure that this lineup of Supremes know their place and if there is ever a re-union this is the lineup I would like to see. .
