Contrived, boring drivel from a contrived, boring band
After hearing Meant To Live and Gone, both good songs that now feel weaker a few months on, I decided to go out and get the album. I first discovered Switchfoot only last year from a friend of mine, I saw the band's name under the music section on MySpace (next to big names like Green Day and The Offspring), and downloaded some of their songs. Hell, I didn't even know the band was a Christian band at the time.
So I buy the album, put it on in the car, play Meant to Live full blast, eagerly awaiting the next song. That next song, This Is Your Life began and I started to get bored. . . . . almost bored enough that I fell asleep! I skip to the next track, More than Fine, then I lost my patience and took the CD out of the player.
I tried listening to the CD some more about a week later, though each track except for Meant to Live and Gone (which are now in the same league as the rest of the album), bored, depressed, and in some cases offended me. (I'm a Christian and believe in God, and am fairly conservative as well, but I like my rock music full of smut and ROCK! Also, I don't like the band's anti-capitalist/humanitarian attitudes. )
Buy if you like Christian music, want to get your grandparents into some rock music they won't winge about but otherwise DON'T TOUCH THIS ALBUM WITH A 100-MILE POLE!.
They continue to blow this young, black mind almost on the daily. 4.09 stars.
I was just looking for something different, and I thank the freakin' Stars above, for leading me to this CD, which was $7+ at the time. When I think of Switchfoot, certain things, flood my thoughts;
Strained vocals, thoughtful, heartfelt lyrics and some pop-rock for the masses! \m/
This album is a surprise, and THEN some:
Some ballads, some rockers, mostly melodic and very tuneful and super-planned out lyrics, which is one of the best parts!!
I bought this in 2003: But don't ask me why. Since it was my lunch break at work, I decided to grab my trusty, rusty-red CD player, and give this bad boy a spin. I was nearly speechless listening to such grit and rawness. Never had I heard a slightly sexy man, pour out so much Heart and Pain in my Life. A true turn on of the member below, but most importantly, the heart, soul and the ever-flowing mind.
Thumbs up, Switchfoot!!

stupid
I am not a fan of this music and I only wasted my money for Meant To Live A song I dont even like anymore
I wont even get into the band's watered down "Christian" message. This album is KINDA creative at best with only 3 good songs. To much comprimise for me.
pretty good album
it was a great feeling like i could play anything! The other songs where great too!! So if you like meant to live this will be a great album!. When I played meant to live on my guitar.
Its a pop CD, Not Rock
I brought it home, put it in the radio, and instantly jammed to the wonderful hit Meant to Live. I borrowed this CD from library recently. Terrific song. But I was sad to find out, it was only rock song on the album. For some reason, I thought this band was a rock band, not a pop band. That was a dissapointment.
THE MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS CD.
Meant to live, This is your life, and Dare you to move are terrific songs, but the rest are just tasteless fillers. This lyrics are good, but the music too dull and, for me, boring. More than fine's chorus sounds to much like their latest single Stars, only worse. All in all, this CD has three good songs, maybe four, (I'm okay with Gone. ), but that's all. The seven other songs are slow and blaaaah!
But this is just me. I'm more of a headbanger. If your a Christian rock lover, put this CD down and pick up Momentum by Tobymac or Skillet's Collide and Alien Youth.
If your a pop/soft rock lover, you'll most likely love this CD.
