So Glad I Found Her
I quickly became depressed that no one was coming out with such innovative, amazing music today. It wasn't so long ago I discovered the music of Nick Drake, and was blown away by it.

Then I heard Deb Talan. While her music is very different from Nick Drake's, I can't help but drawing comparisons in my head. She has a gorgeous voice, and her songs are so perfectly musical, marrying the music to the words gorgeously.

I have a feeling that Deb will be a household name a couple years from now. This is one gal you don't want to let slip by.

And to see her live is. . . bliss.

Up and Coming (and it shows)
Her production is much like that of more recent Story releases as well. How to define a "new" singer-songwriter deserving of true praise? Others compare her to Jewel or Colvin; to me, her voice is most eerily like an early Jonatha Brooke (of the Story). No matter the comparison, though; Deb does it better, lyrically and vocally, and it shows here as elsewhere. A poet's heart with a keen eye and a minor case of perversity, a catch in her sweet voice and a reverent respect for every note in a chord make for a woman to watch!

What we hear here is the unpolished Talan; Her more recent live album, unfortunately not available at this time from Amazon. com, better showcases her poignant imagery without drowning some songs in overproduction. The classic "Something Burning" would be more powerful, I think, without the crashing drums and extra sound-board wizardry that make for the mediocre-est of Adult Alternative. But this album still holds some solid gems, especially "Whetstones" and the "single" Forgiven, a plaintive song of loss and self-worth. And Deb's talent is not to be missed in any forum. See a show when you can; until then, get this disk!.

Wonderful!
Her new one Sincerely is my favorite, but Something Burning is wonderful too! Her voice and guitar work is rich with emotion and honesty. If you ever have a chance to see her live, do it! She is amazing. BUY IT!.
