One Of The Best Female Singers
I feel alot of people over look Tamia and that is there biggest mistake. I love this cd. Tamia voice is awesome and she should be winning grammys, billboard, MTV, BET awards.

its ok
Nothing great. Beats are too similar to everyone else that wants to make a record; no unique sound or style.

3-1/2 stars -- Not bad, but it probably ends here...
Not only that, but the quality of your subsequent albums go from good to just okay, AND people don't even realize when you release albums any more. The story with Tamia seems to be the same old story: you're critically acclaimed when folks first hear your voice, but once you release albums, nobody ever bothers to pick them up. Record labels probably notice this kind of thing too, which is probably why Tamia's latest album Between Friends is on an independent label.

I wasn't a big fan of her last album More because although she can still sing, the song ideas didn't really hit like they should have. And there are a few examples of that on here as well, like -- actually, scratch that; in THIS case, some of the songs are just hard to get into, like "Almost", "Last First Kiss" and "Too Grown". And "Me" is fine and all, but isn't that the same music from "Stranger in My House"?

Thankfully, there are more pros than cons. Tamia is better at club joints than she used to be, as evidenced by "The Way I Love You" and "Can't Get Enough". And as expected, she still shines on ballads, like "Please Protect My Heart" and "Become Us"; and although the Eric Benét duet "Have to Go Through It" isn't quite as good as "Spend My Life With You", it still gets an A for effort. The closing track "Love and I" would also be good if it weren't for that theatrical music after the second chorus.

Although this album is better than More, it still sort of feels like Tamia isn't always giving it her all, as some songs just seem to fly right by you. That, and she still has the habit of singing so hard that she goes off-key sometimes (see "When a Woman"). But if you already like her, then Between Friends shouldn't change your opinion.
