Elemental for a long times? And I happen to find it on Amazon. I was looking for Roland O. com am quite happy?Thank You!.
Breaking It Down Again!
Even with Curt Smith's departure, songs like Breaking It Down Again are still fresh and meaningful. To me, Roland Orzabel was the heart and soul of Tears for Fears, a British rock group that struck it big in the 1980s. Tears for Fears always sang from the heart and mind. Roland Orzabel recruited Alan Smith to join the void left by Curt Smith but I think the product would have ended up equally as well but not superb.
Elementals album is strong in songs like Breaking It Down Again and others. It's still a joy to listen to Tears for Fears anyway. This album is still a pleasure to listen too with it's unique sound and style. Tears for Fears didn't change for a new audience but maintained the same style and sound for an older, mature audience like myself.
This album is a must for Tears for Fears fans or for those who miss the sound the eighties and early nineties.
Hot and cold
Thankfully, TFF never leave entire songs stranded for too long, with mushy pace often subsided by broad electronic strokes to help clear the palate when needed. 3 1/2
Elemental remains the sleek early 90's production job it initially sounded of, though can putter off on autopilot, while vocals grow increasingly grating, in its cheesier moments. .
Music made by a grown up Roland Orzabal!
But this is more a more mature and liberated album. I love the TFF's of the eighties. It feels like Roland is making strides for the future here with or without Curt Smith. This is not the music of the young man who penned "Shout". And that was great in the eighties. Roland has matured as a man and an artist. Its sexy.
Tears of Joy - Tim Mullally
I just picked up 2004's reunion album (also fantastic) and decided to review some of the older material. I'm revisiting this record after 15 years and it's fantastic. Of course the first two TFF records are classics that everybody knows, but all the TFF records are excellent. I saw them in '93. Jellyfish opened the show and I can't say which goup was better, they were both phenomenal. It was Roland's TFF and they did most of this album along with the hits and it became obvious to me that Roland is the driving force of TFF, no offense to Curt. Roland is a great guitarist too. I can only hope they'll put out more recordings in the future. They are masters of the studio too, in keeping with artists like XTC, Beatles, Peter Gabriel, the Jellyfish guys, etc. All these artists are a big influence on my own music too.
