SONGS FROM THE REMASTERED CHAIR"
the digital remastering of the album brought out the real sonic beauty of each song: crisp, crystal clear productions of perfect pop!
SHOUT: their 8th single, and definitely one their best if not the best!
THE WORKING HOUR: a cross between jazz, pop and new wave!
EVERBODY WANTS. the second album of roland orzabal, curt smith, ian stanley and manny elias originally released in 1985 and remastered in 1999 by mercury records could be termed as one the "greatest albums ever recorded. . . : the simple song that became their classic gargantuan hit all over the world!
MOTHERS TALK: a song that's worth pages of psychoanalysis. listen to the instrmental at the end of the song - it's incomparable!
I BELIEVE: a song about endings and new beginnings. . . .
BROKEN: recent releases showed the many incarnations of this song, which was actually a spin-off of "head over heels. "
HEAD OVER HEELS: the "ballad version" of broken! LOL. the four-leaf clover of the album.
LISTEN: a post-apocalyptic theme running seven minutes with only four lines! truly a genius composition.
this reissue also includes remastered b-side tracks and remixes of mothers talk and shout. truly a must-have for any kid of the 80's!.
Songs of the Big Chair TFF's Best
It was a tough choice considering the synthesizer based "The Hurting" and the jazzy "Sowing the Seeds of Love" were also spectacular. As a long fan of TFF and probably my favorite group of the 80's, sorry U2, I felt that "Songs of the Big Chair" was their best release. If it wasn't for their sometimes negative and morbid theme of "The Hurting" I would have picked that one. "Songs of the Big Chair" was an all around spectacular recording mixing different sounds and beats along with Roland's singing making it a very likeable release. Some Highlights:
Shout- Very Popular tune that helped to define Roland.
Working Hour- My favorite TFF Tune of all time. Well done!!
Mother's Talk - Great beat and sound.
I Believe- Nice slow ballad.
Broken- Excellent guitar laden fast pace tune.
Head over Heels- Another popular tune.
Listen- An excellent synthesizer based instrumental.
TFF was the group that was responsible in changing my taste from art rock to alternative rock at that time. I credit "The Hurting" release for accomplishing that. They have a such a creative sound and "Songs of the Big Chair" exemplified their best. .
The Definitive Album of 1985
" Over three years later, I finally got around to buying the multi-platinum album that everybody gives 5 stars. I first got into Tears for Fears through their #1 singles, "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"; both, coincidentally, came from the same album - "Songs from the Big Chair. And it's hard to disagree with what they say.
The main reason why the album was (er, is) so popular is because every song evokes emotions. Instead of singing just the lyrics, Tears for Fears created each song with a unique approach that made it possible for the listener to remember it by. "Shout" has an angry tone and "Broken" conveys a pessimistic tone, for example. Some songs, like "Head over Heels", "I Believe", "Listen" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" tugs at the heart because of the masterful combination of guitars, keyboards, synthesizers, drums, sound effects, etc. that Tears for Fears compiled (not to mention the accompanying lyrics). The rest - "The Working Hour" and "Mother's Talk - offer an upbeat tempo to keep the album from slipping into a predominantly dark and moody album (though the cover says otherwise). This combination turns the album into a medley of hits, waiting to be discovered for those curious to find out what the fuss is about. Trust me, and the rest of the public opinions, this album is not only worth every penny, but also every ounce of praise that it has carried for the past 20+ years. Bravo Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Y'all have created a masterpiece that will forever remain a classic in the music industry.

Worth every penny just for Head Over Heels
It holds up! I have not heard it for years and was suddenly compelled to listen. That song is one of the absolutely best pop songs of all time. . . oh my gosh the rhythm that holds it together and the soaring heartbreaking vocals that swoop up into falsetto ( I have a total " thing" for men who can sing falsetto, it brings me to my knees)
Captivating, emotional, singable, dancable. . . what more can you want in a perfect song? .
AMAZING ALBUM !!!!!!
WITH A DIVERSE MELODIC SOUND, THE BAND MADE A HUGE IMPACT IN AMERICA. BY FAR THE BEST ALBUM THIS GROUP EVER RECORDED. [EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD]#1 AND [SHOUT]#1 TOPPED THE CHARTS. [HEAD OVER HEELS]#3 WAS A SMASH HIT AND [MOTHERS TALK]#27 WAS PRETTY GOOD AS WELL. EVERY TRACK ON THIS ALBUM IS WORTH A [LISTEN]. ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITE ALBUMS OF THAT ERA.
