EXCELENT
"Everybody Wants To Rule The World" was a great track, but I lumped these guys in with Duran Duran and Wham. I never thought of Tears for Fears as Beatleseqe pop in the 80s.

My loss, because this album helped me discover a band I too quickly dismissed. If you did not like 80s pop, it was too easy to miss how melodiic, well-written and Beatlesqe a lot of it was.

This is a melodic beatuy of an album. The songs are carefully constructed, and the bass playing could have come from Sir Paul himself.

Of course, this is a modernly produced piece, and so you are never going to mistake this for the mighty John Paul Ringo and George, the Kinks, or the Left Banke. But musically, Tears For Fears has it going on, and none of the 60s bands have anything on these two in terms of creating wonderfully constructed pop.

They're back!!!

Second, this album is quite good, though I would recommend the two CD set "Gold" for first time listeners. First, it is great that Roland and Curt buried the hatchet and recorded again. It is a great retrospective of their career, including four songs from this album. If you want more, then, by all means, this album will help round out your collection nicely--although I am partial to their first two albums, "The Hurting" and "Songs From the Big Chair", as starters to go beyond this greatest hits collection.

Third, if you ever get a chance to see them live, go. I saw them this summer at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California, and they were excellent. I had lost touch with them since "Sowing the Seeds of Love", and was very impressed. I took my son who told me that he knows a group is good when the songs you don't know, of which there were many for my son and me in this concert, sound as good as the songs you do know.

Fourth, this album is now five years old. One can only hope they do another one soon.

Egg On My Face & Mud On My Shoes
When I left a review for Roland Orzabal's 'Tomcats Screaming Outside,' I left a rather scathing review of this particular album. First and foremost, I owe some people a big apology. At the time, I meant it. I had, and still have, the fondest feelings for their previous works, and even though I had looked forward to ELAHE long before it was released, I just wasn't able to reconcile myself to it. My own shortcoming. When this album was released, I had a daughter who was a little over a year old & my days of blaring loud music in the house were on hold. This album NEEDS to be cranked up to be fully appreciated - there's a whole lot of stuff going on at once and it's easy to miss it at hushed tones.

My biggest beef with this, initially, was that it sounded so Beatles-esque. Don't get me wrong, I believe the Beatles are probably the greatest band of all time, but I like them because they WERE the Beatles and weren't simply trying to sound like them. My other beef was that ELAHE sounded suspiciously like the last album Curt & Roland worked on together: Sowing the Seeds of Love. But . . . . WHO THE HECK CARES?! Now, here it is 5 years after this release & I am righting the wrong that I did to this album in my Tomcats review. In the words of Archie (played by John Cleese) in A Fish Called Wanda, I offer the sincerity and totality of his apology (to Otto).

~ARCHIE: I'm really, really sorry. I apologize unreservedly. I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future. ~

Everybody Loves A Happy Ending doesn't just pick up where STSOL left off, it grabs those reins and drives the chariot higher into the atmosphere. I'll spare everyone a repeat of so many other positive and glowing reviews that have come before this. Yes, yes, yes, I agree with all the good stuff. I WILL, however, add that, in my case, it was necessary to drop my expectations at the door. I'm not sure WHAT I was expecting or hoping for, but this album exceeds whatever it might have been. I wanted to give this album 4 and a half stars, but it's either 4 or 5, and I reserve 5's for stuff that completely blows my mind (The Hurting, Tomcats).

So there it is; my apology to Curt, Roland, and everyone who worked to make ELAHE such a respectable piece of art, and to those who respectfully disagreed, and to anyone who might have chosen not to buy the album based on the ill-informed review I gave it (not that anyone ever actually listens to me : ).

Tears for Fears "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending" = One Great Farewell CD from Roland Orzabal & Curt Smith!!!!!!!!
This is a first class CD in all aspects. This is Tears for Fears at their best. The CD cover art is great. The songs are great. Plus, it's great to hear Roland & Curt together again. The CD consists of 14 great songs, including "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending". This is an inference to their BIG 80's hit "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". This is a great CD, and I highly recommend it. Thanks!!!.

Wonderful album
It has a lot of Beatles influence and is tastefully
done with originality at the same time. I Bought this cd in early April and am still playing it in late April. I think Brian Wilson was also an influence on these guys. I discovered this cd by chance and am glad I did. If you're a Beatles and Beach boys fan you will love this album. .
