"Better Days" is the Best! (This was actually my first time making purchases through Amazon). I couldn't have been more pleased with this purchase! It arrived in a very timely fashion, which I appolozige for not reviewing or sending feedback sooner. The quality of the CD was terrific and is one of my personal favorite Susan Tedeschi CD's. I would definitely recommend buying this CD to other Susan Tedeschi fans of anyone interested in Jazz/Blues/Blugrass kind of music. Thank you again for making my "Better Days" even better! .
Rerelease of a "Local" CD poor quality recording--Good music
The Sessions were acquired and rereleased on this current issue. This CD was originally a "regional" CD back in 1997. So, it's not very good quality recording, mix, etc. If you like blues, this is good early work by Susan, but a CD best left to her avid fans. All the later CDs are regular comercial quality or better and Susan improves with age, boton guitar and singing. It's so easy to sample stuff these days free, you can listen and decide if you like it; don't let the "blues snobs" steer you away from Tedeschi; you might miss out on a lot of heart and a lot of fun.
My cat could probably mix better! I'm serious!
In order to listen to this without getting a terrible headache, I had to mix it down to mono and apply some fake stereo. Fairly good CD marred by the most horrible recording / mixdown / mastering I've ever encountered on a commercial CD - nay, make that any CD! Through headphones the stereo image pumps around, indicating they did some heavy stereo compression without mixing the channels together for the control signal. Pathetic! Who let this thing get stamped out without even the most cursory inspection of the content quality?
[. . . ] But please, please, please play blues guitar on your next CD, OK? Shove those those studio pickers out of the way and do what you do best! And take JH out of your Rolodex!.
she's great , this recording well . . . .
. this is worth owning as it's a record of susan younger . . .
i'm really looking forward to her new album - supposedly coming out this fall.
Great music, bad production
It's a great CD too. I love Susan Tedeschi and was thrilled to get a hold of this "pre-fame" CD. Full of powerful blues that are more reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt than of Janis Joplin.
The production on this CD is really pretty spotty. The first track "It's Up to You" has a very muddy quality to it and "It Hurts Me Too" is painful to listen to on headphones with the mixing from left to right channels constantly moving. Most of the tracks however, are adequately mixed.
All in all, this is well worth listening to if you're a Tedeschi fan, but her following CD's are far superior to this one. She just keeps getting better.
