A Classic From the opening track to the end, this album is a classic. This album is an example of how the blues should be heard. There are a few really stand out cuts on this one, such the second track; The Bluest Blues, which is a very excellent slow sit back and groove cut. The next two cuts are also really nice, but my favorite one on this album is Slow Blues in "C". This track I can play over and over and have done so on numerous occasions. For some down right jamming, I recommend I Woke Up This Morning. It has all of the elements of an excellent party song. All in all, a really fantastic album which showcase the guitar playing skills of Alvin Lee. Yes, I would recommend this album to my friends .
This Time, I Preferred The Slower Material
That's particularly true when you have a guitarist like Lee, who appreciates blues and knows how to hit the right notes. Having been a fan of Alvin Lee and Ten Years After since the '60s, I usually preferred their hard-rockin, foot-stomping material which always put a smile on my face but as I get older, sometimes those slow tunes - especially the blues - can sound really sweet.
The second track on here, "The Bluest Blue," is a good example of what I mean. It's great stuff.
Granted, this is a compilation of material he had done before over the years, but if you want to hear his best blues recordings all in one CD, this is one for you.
Pure Blues
I will be listening to this CD over and over again. Alvin Lee is one of the greatest guitar players of all time and when he plays blues he is at his best.
If you like blues, you'll love this
I love his old Ten Years After stuff and his solo blues work is just wonderful. Alvin Lee has always been considered by me to be one of the finest guitarists in the world. I think I have all of his recorded work, but this is my favorite. I may have listened to this collection a hundred times, and have never gotten tired of it, whereas most cds, after 5 or so listenings, I'm ready for a change. .
Guitar ecstasy
Not SRV or KWS, but seriously good guitar and terrific arrangements. If you're a fan of blues guitar, this CD will have you with your head back and eyes closed, just lovin' it. I think Alvin Lee found where he belongs with this music. .
