'Wow!' - That's All, Just 'Wow!"
I had no idea this live Ten Years After double-disc CD was in existence. This is a prime example of why I like "surfing" this website because I discover some real gems that I wouldn't normally know about. After reading the reviews, I bought it and all I can say is "Wow. " What else can you say, if you've been a lifelong fan of Alvin Lee ant TYA?

Yeah, I've heard TYA do these songs before but some of them in this CD are just astounding. For instance, "I'm Going Home" has been heard (and seen on "Woodstock") so many times I've lost count, but this is the best version I've ever heard them do. It almost brought tears to my eyes, it was so good.

In addition to that TYA trademark song, the others - particularly on side 2 - are my favorites, such as the 16-minute "Help Me" and a couple of Chuck Berry tunes.

Also, the reviewers praising the audio quality are not exaggerating - it's fantastic. Hey, the concert was almost 40 years ago, but sounds like it recorded last week. What a great purchase this is!.

Excellent audio quality of Ten Years After in their heyday
It's in the CD section, when it should be a review in the download section. (NOTE: I downloaded this. It's far cheaper to download. Other than that, the comments here are the same as for the download. This is great stuff!)

It's hard to find Ten Years After among downloads (I'm still looking for Shhhh), and the price on the download of this is far below the two-CD collection. That said, I got this as a download and it's AWESOME!

Ten Years After have, for some reason, been somewhat overlooked by classic rock stations. Maybe because they crafted albums, not hit singles. They put out one live CD, which was, well, rather tepid. Thank God Bill Graham recorded just about everyone who played his venues (Fillmore East, West, Winterland, etc. ). His foresight has created a huge treasure chest full of live performances. (Check out the downloads available at Wolfgang's Vault, which contains Bill's almost obsessive collection of posters, handbills, assorted memorabilia, and, fortunately, recordings! Some dude bought his entire estate and set up Wolfgang's Vault, and while a lot of vintage items are expensive, the music choices are extensive. ) Anyway, this crisp recordiing captures Ten Years After in their post-Woodstock heyday, and is packed with energy and great performances.

This concert was performed prior to the release of Cricklewood Green, which seems, by consensus, to be their best album. I know it's my favorite. So, it's a treat to hear several cuts from that album performed here, including a sublime 50,000 Years. . . A lot of live albums from the late '60s and early '70s were poorly recorded. Bill Graham was a perfectionist, and it shows here, as the audio is just great. You even get to hear him introducing the members of the band. This is a great find and is essential owning for any fan of Ten Years After!.

DOWNLOAD THE MP3 @ $8.99 IS LIKE STEALING!
Then I saw that I could download the songs to my IPod for $8. Having owned the Ten Years After CD "UNDEAD", I couldn't justify buying "LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST". 99. . . the choice was easy. I have nearly 1,000 CDs so, for the most part, I generally just use the IPod anyway.

All of these other reviewers give you the scoop on this live offering, so I'll just tell you to check my other reviews to see what I think of Alvin Lee and Ten Years After on my review of "UNDEAD".

Needed Addition If You're A Fan
However, the sound is less than stellar, certainly not as well-recorded as the Dead's sets just a couple of weeks earlier at the same venue. This set kicks! A very jammin', intense performance from this bluesrock outfit at its peak. The muddiness gives it a dark and a fat bottom but will probably put off those who aren't fans of this group (as will the long jams). The fans will rationalize the audio, which I give as a 6. 5 out of 10, because of the performance, which is a 10 out of 10!! If you love TYA, defintely buy this. If you like jammin' bluesrock from this period, you should probably buy this. If you are neither, why are reading this far?.

Iffy Sound Quality
I recommend this as a later addition, after you explore the rest of the TYA catalogue. Good jamming, but poor recording of this legendary boogie blues band.
