proof of testaments life after alex scholnick
proof is that testament is reborn to thrash hard,-check out the gathering for more of murphy's guitar work. this cd was a test in many ways to see if they could still crush with out alex on guitar and the loss of louie clemete on drums and the verdict was yes but the drums are less than impressive john tepesta is a very fortunate drummer(anthrax tech, exodus, testament, white zombie and even a slayer temp/fill spot )john good and lucky but not great,I would have rather seen a more experienced drummer do this cd paul bostoph!as for the guitars JAMES MURPHy kills on guitar the man is great covering old testsment classics see live at the filmore and adds new crushing guitar toneS to this and takes them back to their roots.

Solid but nothing special
I've always been a Testament fan, however, so maybe I'm willing to cut them a little more slack than others. While there are no really killer songs on this disc (although "God's of War" is my personal favorite), it's a solid album overall, just nothing special. If you're buying your first Testament disc, there are better choices out there but that's not to say that this isn't a disc worth getting. Good, solid metal album.

Recommended.

Good album, probably not as solid as most Testament albums.

While Low, Legions (In Hiding), Hail Mary, Shades of War, PC, Dogs Faced Gods, and Ride are all great headbangers, Urotsukidoji shows some great interplay between Greg Christian and the rest of the band, leading into Chasing Fear which is the most typical old school Testament song on the album, and probably the only time on the album I missed Alex Skolnick (as good as Skolnick is, James Murphy certainly was a worthy replacement). This album saw Testament experiment a little with death metal, and contained some of their heaviest material to date.

However the slow song on this album, Trail of Tears, similar to Return to Serenity on The Ritual, wins the gold for the best song on the album. The song contains the albums best solo (and one of my all-time favorite solos ever) from. . . surprising Eric Peterson. James Murphy's solo was good too, but Eric's was outstanding. People always overlook Eric Peterson's ability as a guitarist because of talent he has had around him, but if you ask me, he should solo more.

Better than the Ritual, but not much.

Faster and more aggressive than The Ritual but not that much better overall. Yet another Testament release.
The group seemed to be losing (lacking) direction.
Skolnick was gone, and it showed big time.
Fast, furious, but not very satisfying. A couple of good tracks here and there. But overall it was a sign, a very BAD sign of things to come.

better late than ever
10 or so years after their prime, testament has given to the world a great gift,to me this is the best testament cd,with props to earlier efforts, the new order and practice what you preach, low surpasses these other classic testament cd`s. not to often does a band get better as time goes on,but that`s what you get with low. crushing guitar, pounding drums, and chuck billy`s growls come together to make metal magic,(black magic)get this, you won`t regret it if you like heavy music.
