The First song is greatBut that is about it. . Too bad it is not available in ecnomical single form or on 7in. . . Buy it used, Cd-r it, sell it used and hopefully the net effect will be You spending no more than 3 or four dollars on it. The 1st song really is good. Features Dave Lombardo. . . Doesn't it??? Actually look at the musician credits. . . This line- up is an All- Star band like a basketball exhibition or something. Dr. J on Bass or whatever.
return of the beast
with dave lombard,james murphy, steve degeogio in the picture you couldn't fall to reach new levels and break ground. this is a serious breath of fresh thrash and rebirth of testament. this is the best cd since low which was my favorite since the new order. testament has had a long run which I thought was done but surprise there is still steam to run on. If you liked anything (except demonic) that testament has done you'll love thing masterpeice that should have followed Low. ecellent riff,killed drumming from dave/slayer. this line up should have done more but things change! .
Modern Thrash Metal Classic
I'm a huge fan of Testament, and have been a fan ever since I got into their first two albums 1987's "The Legacy", and 1988's "The New Order" which were both amazing albums, but like I said before "The Gathering" is Testament's best album. The Gatering is without question Testament's strongest, heaviest, and best album ever thus far, as well as being my favorite Testament album to listen to. I mean seriously, with an excellent allstar like lineup consisting of vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists James Murphy and Eric Peterson, bassist Steve DiGiorgio, and drummer Dave Lombardo, this album is truly a modern thrash metal masterpiece that you can't go wrong with. The production on this album is just top notch. Chuck Billy's vocals on here are just absolutely dominating. He blends his signature thrash style vocals with beastly inhuman death roars with mindblowing results. James Murphy and Eric Peterson's guitar riffs are just absolutely heavy, furious, violent, and the solos are outstanding as well. The rythm section of Steve DiGiorgio is dare I say just absolutely fast and powerful. Steve's bass lines are great and I really like the tone on his bass, and of course Dave's double bass drumming is just fast and vicious which will definately get the mosh pits going like crazy.
The album kicks off with "D. N. R (Do Not Resuscitate)" which starts off with some accoustic strings, which are moments later eliminated by violent thrashing guitarwork, and fast heart pounding drums, and we also have great vocals from Chuck too. A great opening track it is, and one of my favorites on the album. Track two "Down for Life" is another fast heavy favorite which keeps the intensity going with more thrashing riffs and great fast drumming. My all time favorite track on here no doubt has to be track 6 "Legions of the Dead" which features ligthning fast double bass drumwork from Dave, both James and Eric blazing through with riff after riff at incredible speed, and Chuck just bellowing in absolute rage with vicious inhuman roars. This song will definately get the mosh pits churning and the hair on your head flying in delight. Other favorites on here include "True Believer" (which features excellent vocals by Chuck especially in the verses and the chrous, and there's also some catchy guitarwork and a nice guitar solo by James), "Careful What You Wish For", "3 Days in Darkness", "Riding the Snake" "Sewn Shut Eyes", and of course the closing track "Fall of Sipledome". This song is an all out thrashing assault which features careening guitarwork, rapid fire double bass drum assaults, and violent roars from Chuck. There's also a great solo from Eric as well. Like "D. N. R. ". "Legions of the Dead", and "Down for Life", this song is truly another mosh pit worthy song. The truth is every song on here is a classic, now for the ratings.

4. True Believer (3:36) - 5/5
5. 3 Days in Darkness (4:41) - 5/5

Overall, I highly recommend this great album to any fan of Testament, thrash metal, heavy metal, heck even death metal fans will definately dig this album too. If you're a fan of Testament, but you've never heard this album, then you are totally missing out on a great modern trash metal masterpiece. I'm sure glad I enjoyed it. Well Later Dudes!!
P. S. Be sure to look out for Testament's new album which comes out next year, I can hardly wait.
Testament, Death and Slayer combined gives you Testament anno 1999
This is a hybrid album that mixes classic trash with modern death metal, and it is a good mix, they take the best of both and gives us a crystal clear metal album that make your feet and neck bounce. . Dave Lombardo does a great job behind the kit (check out Dave on Mike Patton`s fantastic Fantomas albums!)
If you like this, check "The Haunted Made Me Do It" and everything else by Testament! .
Can I make it 6 stars?
(And Dave Lomboardo played on this record). One of the most underappreciated bands in metal, yet one of the best and most consistent after Slayer. This is my favorite Testament album. The songs are extrememly well-written and every one nearly makes you heart explode from the adrenelin rush. Chuck sounded phenominal. The riffs are stellar. When some more-popular-sold-out-lynard-skynard-wanna-be-bands quit writing good songs just because their bass player dies, Testament continues to kick major [. . . ]. They are due to release a new one very soon. I can't wait.
