There should be more than 5 stars.
I love the happy, nonsensical lyrics and the upbeat melodies. I was first introduced to this band when I was about ten years old by my cousin's babysitter. The songs are easy to sing along to, and fun to blast at full volume. I don't think there's anything to be said that hasn't been covered by the 150+ reviews before me, except that TMBG is just plain awesome. This CD is one of few that I own that I can literally put on random and not be disappointed by anything that comes on.

A true classic
Hot Cha is probably the weakest song, and it's not that bad - and it's pretty much the only song I'd even call weak. I just went to a TMBG concert in which they played Flood in its entirety, and was reminded what a great album it really is. This and Factory Showroom are probably the only two TMBG albums that I would say are winners straight through (although I haven't listened to their kids albums - yet). Others, like Apollo 18 or The Else, are a mix of hits and misses, but these two just keep on delivering. And of course, this album contains Birdhouse In Your Soul, probably the single best song the Johns have recorded.

If you're here because you've bought their music for your kids and are curious what their adult music sounds like, Flood is absolutely the place to start.

Two of the Best Songs Not yet Mentioned
I was doing something else entirely and just happily chugging along to the catchy tunes until I started listening to the lyrics of "Twisting" and catching up with the double meanings. This album snuck up and kicked my can but good the first time I heard it. "She wants to see you again/ Slowly twisting in the wind. " After that I was hooked. Forever. I will probably never get over how good this album is from beginning to end.

Also- did I miss this, but has no-one mentioned "Your Racist Friend"?!? Excellent venting tune! Really purges the sound of bigotry from one's cringing ears.

It is bouncy, absurd and fun, but "Flood" is no trifling bit of fluff. There's some heavy stuff mixed in with the madness.

If you are a 90's teen...you heard this album
I played it till my "tape" broke. I loved this album when I was in high school. I was going through some old tape cases and I found the old case so I ordered the CD and it really took me back. Its a great album to take out and just scream/sing to every now and then. Particle Man. . Istanbul. . . so many great songs.

TMBG "Flood"
My only regret is the lack of a live rhythm section, but many of these numbers thrive on synthesized precision anyway, and wouldn't be the same without it. One of my favorite albums! Eclectic, funny, entertaining, inteligent, and catchy. Seriously tongue-in-cheek.
