worth the $
I was a jaded punker- new waver who was totally loving grunge and that song was the farthest thing from grunge I had ever heard! One of my friends(a dude) suggested I listen to it anyway, because he had put aside his jaded punker- new waver grunge sensibilities and bought the album. I remember when this album came out and I completely hated "Semi-charmed Life". I scoffed. But then, I gave in and listened. I am so glad I did. It is so good and I am embarrassed that I was such a hater. I cannot explain the magic of it. There's plenty of anger, serious rocking, pop that suddenly isn't so bad(you know what one I mean),and heartbreak. I just love it.

simply awful
However, about 8 months ago I saw this band on a Direct TV broadcast of a Southwest Music Festival in Austin Texas and thought the tunes sounded better. I remember when this CD came out and I heard some of the hits on the radio and was not overly impressed at the time. So when I saw the CD recently in the clearance area of a local CD shop for $2 I decided to take a chance. I should have known better. Like the vast majority of bands that have emerged over the last 10 years or so and get steady radio play there is no originality. All of the songs either are just one long tinny sound with each song blending into the next and everything sounding the same or there's the odd song that starts acoustically and then treads off into the same tinny formula. This music is why I can't listen to mainstream radio for more than 10 minutes at a time any more. I never thought I'd do this with a CD but I simply threw this one in the garbage. After having only paid only $2 for it (now I know why) I knew I woudn't get more than 50 cents for it used and I would not give it to anyone I considered a friend.

Mediocre
Condition was not very good. Good shipping time. Case was broken and a few scratches on the CD. Price was decent.

I don't know if there is any thing wrong with this album...
This is what the 90's was all about; Great emotion, competent lyrics, and formidable presentation. All this music inspires. Absolutely love it, you can not go wrong. I came of age in a wonderful decade =)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

An underappreciated classic.
Each song is an exercise in text-book Beatlesque melody, with embellishments here and there: "Graduate" is wistful and jarring, and it could come right off of Dinosaur Jr. One thing about this album that will never get old is the production and the song-craft - the band add little touches to each song that you might never notice on the first run-through, and the over-all SOUND of the recording is masterful. 's "You're Living All Over Me" . . . "I Want You" is a funky piece of psychedelia that calms the mood a little bit. "Motorcycle Drive-By" is pure catharsis, as well as "The Background. " Overall, an underrated classic, and one that is right up there with the aforementioned Dinosaur Jr. record, Smashing Pumpkin's "Siamese Dream" and Built to Spill's "Perfect From Now On. ".
