Outstanding 5.1 sound 1 disc, he does not know what he is talking about. Just to set the record straight do not listen to the person who bad rapped the sound on this 5. The sound is a great example of 5. 1 surround sound. The guys who said that is wasn't, either does not know that he is supposed to make sure that he has his receiver set to multi channel, a common mistake by peple who are new to the format, just because your dvd player says that it is playing in 5. 1 does not mean that you are unless your receiver is set to multi channel. Rememeber people, advanced resolution surround sound is not digital, so you must have the receiver set properly. Or he does not know that the surround (rear) speakers are always mixed lower than the front and center speakers in advanced resolution surround sound discs. This is a great example of 5. 1 done right, if you like this format I would grab this, because it will soon be out of print and you won't get it. The Old Kit Bag is one of Richard Thompson's finest albums, and the surround mix only makes it better. a wretched waste It is one of Thompson's best, and that's saying a lot. Old Kit Bag is a great Richard Thompson album, a stunning collection of songs with electrifying performances by a great band. But if you, like me, love the man and are excited by the prospect of listening to this in marvelous surround sound, forget it. The sound output is anemic, and there is absolutely nothing in the rear speakers except a bit of reverbed drums. You can get a better surround feel by using your stereo version and running the fake Dolby surround. To market this as 5. 1 surround is a total sham, and a waste of money! Shame on Richard for allowing this out. Great music, but the sound is one of the best. I know what I'm saying. If you have an audio system with DVD-Audio, hi-fi speakers and a excellent power don't miss this one. Period.
