good--but not as complete as they'd have you believe (three and 1/2 stars)
Unfortunately, it doesn't. 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Three Dog Night is a CD that purports to give us the best of Three Dog Night. Twelve or eleven tracks just can't do them justice here; and that's a disappointment. On the bright side, however, what few tracks we do get is high quality.

The CD starts off with Three Dog Night performing their relentlessly upbeat tune entitled "Joy To The World. " Their awesome rendition of this older tune rocks and really sounds great when they sing and play this! The electric guitars work very well and this is a strong opening number. "Shambala" is a groovy tune that has a slightly folk rock flavor to it as they sing of a special place named Shambala. Awesome! This song has a great deal to do with finding inner peace and achieving a better quality of life.

"Black And White" addresses racism as an evil and Three Dog Night really belts this out! The drums, percussion, and more enhance the natural beauty of the number; and the band never misses a single beat! "Black And White" is truly a very special song.

"Mama Told Me (Not To Come)" is a highlight of this album; Three Dog Night does this with all their heart and soul; they sound great and you can tell they're enjoying doing this number. "Never Been To Spain" is a soulful ballad that seems to mix folk with harder rock and it all works very well. "Never Been To Spain" is a classic, timeless hit from Three Dog Night.

"Easy To Be Hard" is a cover of a song from Hair; and Three Dog Night delivers this with great sensitivity and a lot of style. They play this well and the guitars again really carry the melody along with the drums and percussion. "The Show Must Go On" is a ballad you don't forget easily; the sadness of the lyrics pulls at my heartstrings and this makes a stunning conclusion to this album.

Now certainly we get twelve great songs here from an awesome band, Three Dog Night. I have no quarrels with that. However, there's just not enough here for this to be considered a true "best of" collection. That would be more than twelve tracks! This is geared toward the casual fan; diehard fans will want to look at other albums with more meat to them.
