5 Stars
A great singer and performer. Pam Tillis is talented and under-rated. Country radio is in a downward spiral because they are ignoring the truly great artists, like Pam Tillis. . . and also Dwight Yoakum. Every song on this album very good. "Calico Plains" is my favorite.

An outstanding nineties country album

Mi vida loca (my crazy life) became a number one country hit for Pam. I was fortunate to buy this when it was first released in the UK and included four bonus tracks (three from Put yourself in my place and one from Homeward looking angel), but the ten tracks that form the standard album would have made the purchase well worthwhile anyway. It has a Tex-Mex feel to it and swings along in great style - definitely one to get your toes tapping, as is the next track, Sweetheart's dance. Next comes a brilliant ballad, Calico plains, written and first recorded by Matraca Berg. When you walk in the room is a cover of the Jackie de Shannon song that became a pop hit for the Searchers in the sixties and a number two country hit for Pam. This song is perhaps better known in Britain than America, but it's a great song anyway. The next two tracks, Spilled perfume and I was blown away, provided Pam with further country hits. Four more great songs (They don't break 'em like they used to, In between dances, Better off blue, 'Til all the lonely's gone) complete the standard album.

For fans of nineties country music, this is a truly great album - it sounds contemporary but is still obviously a country album.

Her Career Album
SWEETHEART'S DANCE is one of those exceptions, however--not only is it inarguably the best album in her catalog, but remains one of the great country albums of the nineties. While Pam Tillis has produced a string of first-rate country singles, she doesn't always hit the mark when it comes to following through with an album's worth of first-rate material. While her hit parade here continued('Spilled Perfume','In Between Dances',etc. ), the album is filled out with equally fine material, chief among them the shuffling title track and the uptempo 'They Don't Break Em Like They Used To'. It's a creative highpoint that she's since failed to surpass.

Best Pam Album
The hits you know and the other songs are outstanding. This is an outstanding album with a great mix of ballads and up tempo songs. My only reservation is "Blown Away". It is too lightweight and childish for such a masterpiece album.

Welcome to my crazy life!
I was my favorite Pam Tillis CD for a very long time. I liked this CD the first time I played it. There were quite a few popular singles from the CD, but the memorable songs that were not released are Matraca Berg's "Calico Plains," and "Til All The Lonely's Gone. " Check out the lyrics on the insert.
