Toto FIB Live
It is cool to hear how new players inject a little something different into the familiar songs. This DVD rocks! As good as the Amsterdam Live DVD for die-hard Toto fans. Bobby Kimball's vocals never sounded better, less "pitchy" than Amsterdam. Greg Phillinganes does a great job on keys, and Leland Sklar is unbelievable on bass. As much as I love Mike Porcoro's playing, Leland sounds like he's been playing with Toto all along. A great DVD for ANY fan of Toto.


Brilliant
Period. If you're a Toto fan, buy this and the dvd now. This is as good a concert dvd as I have ever seen. Toto is truly a benchmark and one of the best bands ever, in my humble opinion. .


Sad to see them go, but what a goodbye!
This release is more than likely the last one for a while if not forever as Steve Lukather has decided to call it quit after some 30 years with the band. I have been a Toto fan since 1979 and have bought everything I could find from them.

What you will find on hear is a collection of tunes that do a are very good job of giving you the listener some form of idea as to what Toto was all about. These guys have written some incredible tunes over the years and this live release shown a glimpse of their greatness.

The sound is awesome as are the performances. If you don't have anything to remember this band by in your personal collection?, pick this up or better yet, pick up the DVD of this concert and sit back and watch greatness unfold in front of you!

Different songs, but let's compare it to Amsterdam Live...
However, as the main "players" in the vocal dynamics of the band, the performance doesn't suffer. I've got some of the names right this time, Kimball and Lukather seem to be the only original Toto members left on here. The black fellow and the fellow with the "Grateful Dead" long, grey beard do very well on the keyboards and bass guitar, respectively. It seems like the musicians are quite tentative and professional with their delivery (kind of like they're playing with a tight jazz band or something). And that's not far off. . .

Some comparisons of interest to the "Live Amsterdam" compilation might the overall song selection. There is definitely a different selection of songs than on that release, but it all amounts to about the same. I wish the band would not bother playing these lesser known songs and just stick to the big hits- all of them. "Hold the Line" has good potential on here because overall I think Kimball is having a slightly better night on the vocals on this occasion, but ruins the song by refusing to sing the "wo wo wooo" part at the chorus. Ruins the integrity of the song. . . "Rosanna" starts off with a slow, jazz feel, which might come over quite well to the subdued Parisienne audience, but again, with such classics as these, why change them? It picks up later, but the damage is done. "Africa" might be the only improvement on this release, along with the full live version of "I'll Supply The Love", the latter only clocking in at two minutes. . . As usual, a lost opportunity to do these classics one last piece of justice. Nevertheless, it gets about four stars. I always feel that you should play your material exactly the way you did in the studio release (or try to). The very fact that you're live will bring some subtle nuances without retracting from the integrity of the song. Don't do silly "jazz version", "acoustic versions", etc. Just do the song the way people know it. .
