This sucks If you listen to their newer stuff which is horrid you can easily see why there was no fire behind these songs because it was a forced venture and not who they were or are. I could never figure out why this subpar band got popular, I mean sure Poets had a decent beat but this stuff sounds like "trying to hard no soul" rock which is the sucky kind.
AWESOME Tragically Hip!
It's hard to believe it's the same group that produced "We Are The Same" which was a major disappointment. Probably their best.
one of the great ones!
I bought this on cassette back in 1990, and assumed they where going to be huge. I think for pure rock 'n roll/blues, this is one of the greatest 20 albums ever made. I still can't understand why they are not. It seems that everyone I know that hears this CD, loves it. I was in the military when I bought this, and for awhile, was the most dubbed tape in my unit. They must have awful marketing working for them.
Not the Whip, "When the Weight Comes Down"
I don't remember hearing it on the radio, it just goes to show that they weren't then and aren't now playing songs from great rock CD's like this one. I just heard this for the first time today, around 17 years after it first came out. I saw a movie entitled, "A Man in Uniform" in a motel in Port Angeles, WA in 1996. There are two "Tragically Hip" songs on it. It inspired me to get this and "Yer Favourites". I forgot the name of the movie but found a scrap paper where I had written it down. Funny, how we can accidentally find some great rock and roll sometimes. Ten years later I get the movie. And you know the rest of the story, only I'd like to include that this is one of the great rock and roll albums of all time, not just the 80's or 1989.
first hip album and all I can say is wow!!
New Orleans is Sinking is a great foot stomper and hip mover. These guys are great, original, great guitar licks. I loved the whole album form beginning to end. .
