Lord, If It Wasn't For My Contractual Arrangements, I'd Have Time To Write Me Some GOOD Songs I think he's a strong and enthusiastic singer who lets it all hang out on most songs he sings. I like Travis Tritt. And in that positive respect, COUNTRY CLUB is no different than numerous other Tritt CDs. Unfortunately, that is the CDs only positive. COUNTRY CLUB is an uninspired collection of very "safe" songs, many written by Tritt himself. We have the "I'm proud to be a redneck and I love country music. " genre. We have "Even when I was a little boy, I knew I wanted to be a country star someday. " We have "Ain't it a shame that things ain't like they was in Grandpas's day when a man's word was his bond. " We get, "I wanted to leave our little country town for the bright lights, but Lord this big city is so cold and impersonal and I wish I could go back home. " In short, there is NOTHING innovative in the lyrics to any of these songs; nothing you haven't heard a thousand times before; nothing remotely interesting, thought provoking, or funny. Still, even cliches can be presented with the occasional bright well-crafted line; one that makes you smile when you hear it. Well, let me disabuse you of that notion in regards to COUNTRY CLUB. And, parenthetically, why CAN'T those ol' boys stuck up there in Toledo or wherever who are yearnin' for the old home place just get up and go back home, already?
The playing on this CD is Nashville-sterile - perfect yet emotionless, again with nothing new or interesting to say. These players are outstanding, but all they do here is contribute to the safe and slightly cynical vibe. Cynical in terms of, "Boys, we don't really have to do s**t here, and it'll be good enough. "
As I said, I really like Travis Tritt and have other of his CDs, all of which have good things on them. COUNTRY CLUB does not. There is NO passion in either the playing or the singing and ultimately it is just plain boring. Tritt's singing can't save this one by itself.
I bought this CD on Amazon and while the price - 1 cent - was right, the $2. 98 shipping costs done pretty much broke my heart and, Lord, I wish I could sell it to someone else.

Travis Tritt's Debut Album Kicks Off a Career That is Still Going After 20 Years
The music is special since Travis has had influences from all genres and he incorporates them into his signature sound. Country Club was the first release by Travis Tritt in 1989 and it is his best. His style mixes Southern rock, country, blues and a bit of gospel. His heroes are artists like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, Molly Hatchett, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Waylon Jennings and others. If you like any of these you will like the music of Travis Tritt. He performs his songs with enthusiasm and passion, whether it is an upbeat song like Country Club or a romantic ballad like Help Me Hold On or Drift Off to Dream. The third track, Put Some Drive in Your Country, sums up his musical philosophy. There is a line in the song that says "Well I made myself a promise, when I was just a kid, I'd mix Southern Rock and country, and that's just what I did". Every track on this album is a winner and I especially like the last song, Dixie Flyer. It was not a hit but nevertheless I love its energy. I have over 400 CDs and Country Club is my favorite, hands down. Travis is a born performer and you can hear his enthusiasm for his craft on his works and you will see it even more if you have the pleasure of seeing him live. Travis is a Georgia native who performs country with an attitude. I feel that Travis Tritt is one of the giants of country, and I would put him in the same category as Garth Brooks and George Strait. .

Travis Tritt!
I think the songs in this collection are entertaining and clever. What an impressive country music debut album! Travis Tritt's vocals are so powerful and unique, which makes the album great. One of my favorite songs on the album is: "Sign Of The Times. " I enjoy that hand clap percussion at the end of the song. I highly recommend this album!.
