Cheap Production Wastes Bonnie's Talent Here Bonnie is poorly served by Dieter Bohlen, whose production is so cheesy that it's akin to bad karaoke backing [ no kidding ]. One of 3 albums by Bonnie Tyler released in Germany in the early 90's, it is a far cry from her previous work with producers Jim Steinman and Desmond Child. He even wrote most of this dreck! The backing is mostly computer programmed to simulate instruments, including horrendous celtic pipes that he used on many of the songs. If you ever wondered why this album was not released in the US or UK, it's because it's bad!
The songs that don't have such awful production are the only ones worth a listen. He actually did a good job on a techno song " RACE TO THE FIRE ", and her version of " YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL " is refreshing to hear considering the other schlock on here, and Bonnie's own " YOU WON'T SEE ME CRY " is good. But how such a worldwide hit artist as Bonnie could have let herself be produced into this inferior work is a question to be asked.
Thank goodness Bonnie has returned to rock music again with her new CD " WINGS " , where she co-wrote the songs. These early 90's albums from Germany are really a mixed lot. Bonnie completists will be better served by the 3 CD " ALL THE BEST " , which covers almost all the songs from the 3 German albums, plus a few singles only tracks. There you will find some good songs not produced solely by Dieter Bohlen. .
Bonnie Tyler with the Royal London Philharmonic Orchestra
Bonnie Tyler sings so powerfully and tenderly!
Listen to "I Climb Every Mountain", "James Dean" or "Crying A Little". This album (1993) is one of the best albums ever!
Dieter Bohlen (the song-writer of tracks 01-12) and Bonnie Tyler recorded this excellent album with love to their fans.
A "must-have" for all her fans!
Also, I recommend her CDs: "Angel Heart" (1992), "Comeback Single-Collection" (1994) and "Bitterblue" (1991).
One of Bonnie's nineties classics
In the mid eighties, the hits dried up despite some brilliant original songs including The best - a failure for Bonnie but a worldwide success a year later via a Tina Turner re-titled Simply the best. In Britain and America, Bonnie Tyler is mostly remembered for It's a heartache and Total eclipse of the heart, though she had a few other hits. Eventually, Bonnie signed for a record label in Germany, where she recorded a series of brilliant albums including Bitterblue, Angel heart and All in one voice (all of which I've already reviewed) and this one. Despite being recorded in Germany for German fans, these albums were all recorded in English.
All the songs here are of a high quality and feature songs of varying tempos, though mainly rock ballads. You are so beautiful and You won't see me cry are covers but the others are all originals. Sally comes around is about a lonely woman with a heart of gold. Fire in my soul is an up-tempo rocker. Stay is a tender ballad, not to be confused with the sixties classic of the same title. Send me the pillow is another great original song - there was a sixties country song with a similar title and idea, but the two songs are very different. From the bottom of my lonely heart and Silhouette in red are brilliant love songs. And the quality of the songs never drops - the other songs are equally brilliant. .
This is a typical Bonnie Tyler album with great songs and Bonnie in top form. It was released in Germany but not in Britain or America - no surprise because Bonnie is more popular in Germany than elsewhere. Yet Bonnie's music remained as good as ever and if you are one of Bonnie's fans, you will surely enjoy this album.
