UFO's Best Studio Recording
This is their best studio recording. It's all been said before. If you like UFO;don't go without this one. .

Obsession
Everyone asks why there wasn't more from this album used on the live album which was released just after it Strangers in the Night, well it's pretty obvious considering the band said they didn't like Obsession and that it was recorded before this album was released so they were only playing a few tracks that were going to appear here. UFO-Obsession ***

I'm having a really hard time understanding why Obsession is included with the classic era UFO releases, because it doesn't contend with any of the other albums from that era.

'Only You Can Rock Me' opens the album and feels more like T-Rex than that of a UFO tune. It is a great track and became a hit for the guys but is really among the weakest releases in the groups career. 'Cherry' also has become some what of a classic for UFO and rightfully so. 'Born To Lose' is decent if that and 'Pack It Up And Go' is really among the bands all time best though it is often over looked.

Phil does sound his best on Obsession though. His vocals are fantastic though his lyrics lack anything good, which is why the ballads suffer so much. Michael Schenker does play some of the best fret work of his incredible career. But that alone is not grace enough to save the album.

Overall Obsession is an average album from a great band capable of so much more. The preceding albums were much stronger as was the live album to follow. Not worth the price of admission I'll tell you that much.

The most under rated group of the 70's
Hard rocking metal songs with smooth sweet interludes. This is UFO at their best. A must for a hard rock collection.

Like a well oiled Smith & Wesson...
However band chemistry (both literally and figuratively) was always teetered on self-implosion and the tour to support 'Obsession' proved to be the final straw that broke UFO's legendary lineup and any momentum that was needed to reach superstar status. UFO should have been primed for major US success after the release of 1977's 'Lights Out' and the June 1978 release of its immediate followup 'Obession'. The present record, again produced by Ron Nevison, featured a more bombastic sound and top gloss production job. Andy Parker sounds immense and Michael's guitar sound was never surpassed. Songs include "Only You Can Rock Me", which is probably my least favorite of their classics. I don't know why, maybe cuz of the chourus - kinda monotonous. I prefer the one-two punch of "Hot 'N' Ready" and "Cherry"; the former an amazing riff rocker with classic Phil Mogg vocals and lyrics and the latter, an amazing power ballad about "obsession" with a dancer (who hasn't been there?). Amazing! Others standouts include "You Don't Move Me", "Pack it Up" and "One More for the Rodeo". Two more power ballads (God I hate that term) close both sides of the original LP and I'm not crazy about either (especially "No. 1", kinda "Love to Love" lite). The guitar in "Born to Lose" makes this song slightly better but again, why another sappy tune to close the record? 'Obsession' would prove to be the end of an era for UFO though they would continue to make great records, the flirtation with superstardom ended with the departure of one Michael Schenker.

GREAT CD / BUT REMASTERING VERY POOR !
The other cd's that are remastered sound great!. This is one of UFO's best cd's, but the remastering on this is very poor.
