one of the forgotten "great bands" they were truly "the best band during their short time of being together" and this was "the album from them" and sorry about all the quotation marks. since 1972 my first concert was hawkwind ( anybody remember them) and the second Uriah Heep. Deep purple, uriah heep, those were the heavy bands that will never be again. This band rocked at the chicago amplitheatre back in 74? when this came out? david byron. . . . . . . awesome. .
Mixed feeling but all ok in the end
I am buying as xmas gift so no big deal. When I received my shipment it was in good timing, but wrong product. was easy to return and receive proper item. Thank you!.
Today is only yesterdays tomorrow...
Released in the spring of 1972, the album broke the band into many foreign lands and became among their biggest sellers especially in the US. `Demons and Wizards' marked both the creative and commercial peak of the quirky British quintet known as Uriah Heep. The momentum that had begun with the previous year's `Look At Yourself' had reached its zenith on `D and W'. As has been a constant throughout the band's long existence, a lineup change a preceded the record as Gary Thain and Lee Kerslake joined Byron, Box and Hensley to form the definitive Uriah Heep of 1972-75. The current LP remains a fan favorite due to the inclusion of such Heep standards as lead track "The Wizard", an anthemic saga that begins acoustically and features a middle section vocal from short time bassist and song co-writer Mark Clarke. "Easy Livin'" is the band's most famous song in the States and was a strong representation of the band's style of driving metal. "Rainbow Demon", "Traveler in Time" and "Circle of Hands" all became Uriah Heep classics as well and carried the fantasy themes of the LP that was well represented by the title and the Roger Dean designed cover. The two song suite "Paradise" and "The Spell" close the album in fine fashion, a slow dirge-like number that transforms into a good time romp. Although `Demons and Wizards' achieved tremendous success, the band's workload did not decrease and would go on to release a follow up later the same year. The breakneck pace however would take its toll on the band's creativity and its chemistry. .

The CD was delivered right away and is in perfect condition. This album was always one of my favorites; I had an old CD that got scratched so I was happy to see that a search on Amazon produced options to buy a new one.
Not even worth the fiver
Recently, my friends here at Amazon offered several of those for 5 bucks each, and I grabbed several. I have a stack of LPs I've been contemplating digitizing. This, by far, is the most disappointing. Even when I played the LP regularly, I never flipped it and listened to side 2. (Those youngsters reading this may not know that we had to MANUALLY turn an LP over to hear the other half, and some of us purists used turntables that didn't even automatically drop the tone arm or pick it up. Those people are all Unix administrators today. ) The woozy, pretentious 70s lyrics, the pompous guitar riffs, the endless organ noodling, the dreadful 15 minute snoozefest that concludes this bombastic LP all add up to a mistake in judgment. Wow, this is easily missed. "Easy Livin'" was a fine radio song. And still is. That's the second star. A 99 cent download would far more happily fix that lacuna in my music collection. The rest of this LP ranges from embarrassing to unbelievable. I listened to this? Really? Often? Oh my goodness. Well, my politics have moved a long way since 1972, when I worked in New Hampshire for McGovern. Guess I'm not the same guy. Don't think I'll be putting The Magician's Birthday or Look At Yourself on the turntable any time soon.
