Love VH Vertical Horizon is like the best R. These are one out of a few of my favorite bands! I got this CD a few weeks ago and as I got it, I quickly poped the CD into my computer and started to listen to the CD. E. M like band ever!!! I can not wait for the new album "Burning The Days".
Two Thumbs Up!
A must-have for anyone who likes Vertical Horizon. I really like all the songs on this CD--the tracks switch from mellow to noisy to jammin'.
Less is more for them
The direction they're going in with this one is really an odd place to start with their acoustic, pseudo-religious beginnings. It's funny that with a band that's undergone as much evolution as Vertical Horizon, this is actually the first CD of theirs I heard in full. Yet just because they're different now doesn't make them worse; this is one of the best bands out there in the realm of straight alternative pop-rock, so it is definitely worth a spin.
The irony with these guys is that a lot of modern rock is praised for its complexity. But Vertical Horizon's thing is that they're very simple--no 5-minute guitar solos of 32nd notes here, yet that works. These guys push elegance through simplicity to the limit and be completely successful with it. The opener "When You Cry" is as clean and predictable as you can get, but it comes out on top anyway. Hits "I'm Still Here" and "Forever" follow suit and win their gamble with beautiful hooks. Many tracks, namely "One Of You" and "Sunshine", display great hooks and lyrics that are quick but not recycled.
On both of their major-label albums so far the band has had a unique song that really shows their creativity and musicianship. "Underwater" fits that bill here, even without Keith Kane's insistent vocals it stands on its own. The musical talent of this foursome is ever-present, hovering over basically every track, even if it seems basic. "Inside" clocks at over five minutes, but it doesn't ever seem long. "It's Over" may get a bit boring after the first listen, but it's not terrible.
Go is a very solid album, even if Everything You Want is still generally hailed by fans to be their best. It is well-produced and never too slick to be robbed of its own power, which comes in spades with their lush style. Vertical Horizon have definitely come a long way from their beginnings as a folksy, James Taylor-inspired acoustic duo, but if they keep going in the direction of Go they are bound to fill plenty of stadiums and store shelves alike, and that's perfectly fine by me.
Big Vertical Horizon Fan
All their songs are great and I never seem to tire of them no matter how many times I listen to them. I admit I am biased, but I am a HUGE Vertical Horizon fan, and this CD will NOT let you down. Great musicians and great lyrics.
Vertical Horizon Continues Upwards
Of the three CD's I have from this group, this is my favorite, which says a lot because I played their last CD, Everything You Want, constantly. I adore this latest release from Vertical Horizon. Go has a more refined sound than Everything You Want while still keeping that edgy, but not quite metal sound. The group seems to have worked out their place in the music world going from the James Taylor like sound of Running on Thin Ice to the trying to be a metal band sound of Everything You Want. It is the perfect blend. After only listening to it twice I couldn't get the song I'm Still Here out of my head. The vocal blending of the members' voices is nicely collaborated with just enough vocal originality from the lead singer to not be confused with all those other bands. The song styles are fairly similar so that the CD blends well without the monotomy of every song sounding exactly the same. Whether you are new to this band or a long time fan you will be hooked on this CD.
